Hi TJ
I can do them for you. As it happens, I'm busy doing a 5 reel transfer of that format right now.
Take a look at my web site:
www.thinbrownline.com
You'll have to ship your tapes to me here in California, but most of my clients have to do that.
Regards

Agreed on MM-1200s (and the unfairly-maligned MM-1100s) being better than the MM-1000. Especially when fitted with my head assembly roller upgrade (little plug...). If you include private studios, there's also an MM-1100-8 in Fresno that I originally rebuilt for a local musician a couple years back ...

They are probably just fine. I agree with Tony.
Tape is more resilient than most people think, and a few drops of water over a couple of days is not likely to have harmed them.

Hi Stephen Yeah, I took a look and I also like that web site of his. So... yet another MM-1200 appears out of the woodwork. I'm so pleased when I find them being used. Not forgetting your old favorite MM-1000 machines of course. A few folks still using them too. No chance of you reappearing on the A...

Hello Anton Unless you find a studio within driving distance that can play your tape you will have to mail it to them. So you could simply mail it to me in the USA... I can convert the recorded material to wave files that are easily imported into Pro Tools or any other DAW. Check out my web site. Re...

Scott from OC band The Growlers has an Ampex MM-1100 1" 8 track that I built for him a little while back. Recapped audio, virtually new heads, extra MDA fan, input transformers, and best of all it is fully working. They recorded their last EP on it, and he loves the sound so much that he's got a 16 ...

Well, an excellent starting point is the MRL web site. Here's one particularly useful link: http://home.comcast.net/~mrltapes/which-cal-tape.html Your machine is 15ips IEC equalization. The 31J119 tape recommended in the manual is 200nWb/m, which was fine for Ampex 406 tapes. If you are using a more...

If it is working ok and you are getting it for a fair price, then you can't lose! Working examples of those machines are in demand, so use it for a while and if you decide you want something more then simply sell it and move on up. Good luck David PS A common problem with these machines is the HF do...
