Mono? pfffffbbt! Give me that Super-Stero sound!
I feel just the opposite. I'm becoming enamored with Super-Stereo! I've been recently listening to Mama's and Papa's nonstop for just that reason. I love the songs where all the vocals are in one speaker and all the drums in the other. It's cheesy, and unnecessary, tiring..and so cool! I'm currently...

Why does this track sound so good and authentically old school?

Is it the reverb on EVERYTHING? Why does this sound so damn good!?

Is compression and possibly chorus a little bit of the equation? Call me crazy but I'm listening to Ladybug Transistor "Arbermarle Sound" and the new Jens Leckman record and sometimes the ricks sound a little squishy and chorus-ed. Maybe it is doubling. Anyway, thanks for the suggestions! I'm on my ...

Affordable Rickenbacker/Rick alternative?
Hi everyone,
I'm desperately trying to get the "rick" chiming 60s sound but I don't have a rick! I just don't have the money to spend $1,000 on a used one. Anyone know of an affordable way to get something "close" to that Rickenbacker sound?

Wow, what a response! Anyway, the patchbay, cords and power supply (for the rack) have been ordered. I can see how not wishing to solder a patchbay could sound lazy but I'm not an engineer, just a hobbyist songwriter with no interest in such things. I will say this though, I am a proffesional artist...

Will a cheap behringer mixer do what a patchbay could do?
Hi everyone! So like an ass I've decided to give myself a few Christmas gifts early. My home studio is currently in shambles with me recording through a variety of rackmount devices lying on the floor into my laptop. My plan is to build a rack to store all these effects plus purchase something that ...

Re: Smells like indie spirit
I just find find a topic entitled "indie spirit" opening with a post about how "sick" it is that today's kids don't even want to pick up their guitars because of them damn computers rather embarrasing. There's nothing "indie" about guitars, there is nothing un-indie about computers. I think there is...

Re: Ignorance
If no one has mentioned it yet, keep in mind that this goes both ways. I have a far harder time as an electronic musician trying to explain what I'm doing to an old-skool tape operator or, god forbid, bassist or guitarist than they do explaining their processes to me. I once mentioned I had a good i...

Ghost Busters lead synth...is it a preset?
Hey kids,
So, I'm desperately trying to replicate the lead synth sound during the chorus of Ghost Busters! What synth is that? Was it a factory preset? Does anyone know if a copy of this patch is floating around on the internet somewhere?
