Re: Want to get started, need advice

I have had good success with a 2004 Toshiba Satellite A75 with P4 3.2 with 1 GB RAM and 80 GB HD. You can get this for around $1300 right now. I use Cubase SE and an M Audio USB hardware product with no issues at all. If you're looking for 8 in's, I have heard awesome things about the Presonus Firep...

Presonus Firepod - is it hot?

Has anyone tried the new Firepod? I'm ready to step up to 8 inputs through Firewire and was hoping for some feedback on this product.

I think edirol just came out with the first usb 2.0 with 8 ins, and it's $699 on musicians friend

Re: anybody using a compaq presario 2100 laptop?

I've heard of laptops running really hot with external devices, especially the 8 channel firewire hardware inputs. you may simply have to upgrade your computer. I use a Toshiba Satellite with a gig of RAM and a P4 3.2 with HT. I have not had any heat issues so far and I got the rig for under $1400.

editing tracks in cubase

is it possible to edit certain parts of various tracks in cubase SE? for example, Can I add distortion to a vocal track for the last two measures of the track, and not to the entire track? Or do I simply have to create an entire new vocal track with that two measures of distorted vocals only? any he...

f@#&ing cubase monitoring

during playback of any track I only hear sound through the right speaker. the left speaker will only play if I activate effects through the equalizer. The effects are then through the left speaker and the plain track is heard on the right. I have checked panning and both of my quattro 3/4 tracks are...

process this!

anyone have experience with the newer Intel Centrino mobile processors vs. the Pentium 4. My friend at Intel says the Centrino's have 2K of cache where the P4's only have around 512. I am still in limbo over what type of laptop to buy and would love to hear feedback regarding processors.

thanks

Re: cubase SE and choppy audio playback

I was only running two mics and it kept crashing my computer. I had the input levels turned down quite a bit and did not notice any clipping, but the computer could not take it. I definitely need to purchase a new one and am doing so this week.

Re: cubase SE and choppy audio playback

thanks for the tips. While I record my own acoustic songs, my larger goal is to do mobile recording at live, local shows. Any tips for doing this. I have tried it once so far, with limited success, perhaps my pre-amps are not good enough, or my computer just can't process the tracks quickly enough. ...
