Josh Homme: magnetic film reader

hey everyone: i read an interview awhile ago about them crooked vultures and josh homme said that he liked to use a "magnetic film reader" as a super crazy low wattage guitar amp. i believe what he is referring to is also shown in that youtube video of liam lynch and josh homme messing around with t...

Tascam 58 w/ extras $400

i'm selling my tasca 58 machine with a take up reel and MRL calibration tape. it was serviced by a former TEAC/TASCAM tech in the chicago area who said that it is now in great working condition and the heads have thousands of hours left. the only issue with it is that the meter on channel 6 is crack...

Re: Moving an AKG BX20e Reverb--best way?

Anyone have any advice/experience moving a BX20? We're moving it on its side in an automobile. Not on its side. but if you have to, just put some foam under the cage inside to keep it from collapsing or stretching out the mounting points. Its pretty robust. Then drive it to central IL... take inter...

Impedance and resistance are not the same thing. That's why a 16 ohm speaker will not read 16 ohms on your meter. ok, i understand what you are saying, here is how i got the # that i got: i took a fluke automotive meter, set it to the ohm/speaker setting (yes, it has one of those) and tested it. ac...

depends on what the preamp tubes are doing. Not all tubes do the same thing. It's not about counting tubes... it's about counting stages of gain. Have a look at the schematics for your two amps and count the stages of gain. Something like a tremolo oscillator is not a stage of gain and will not inv...

There are some people who claim to be able to hear a difference. The idea being that the initial attack should push the speaker outward first. I think that's all hooey, but some people's kids... The OP seems to have proven that his amps are not of opposite polarity, and it must be something in his ...

The production does sound a bit more "slick" than I would expect from the musical style, but it doesn't sound bad. The guitars actually sound pretty right on, to my ear. I could use a bit more grit and punch to the bass tone and some more room sound on the drums. That's purely my taste though, good...

so on saturday i took a tuner pedal and split my signal and ran into both amps: no polarity issues, so i went back and rewired my pedalboard so it is a mono signal, split with a tuner right before the amps. hope this solves it.
