Ampeg Gemini II

What can you guys tell me about this amp. I own two twins: One a master volume (pullout) mid seventies silverface, the other a blackface reissue. The problem is that I moved out to NYC recently and have not had the funds to ship my amps out here. I do have enough cash ($475) to buy the Ampeg but do ...

Easiest ways to burn Vinyl using my G4 powerbook cd burner

What's the easiest way to convert my Lp's into audio files that can be burned by my G4 powerbook burner. Are there any free software downloads that can help me with this? I've heard that WinAmp can do it but not the free version. I have ProTools and Reaktor at my disposal but would rather use a easi...

Re: School recommendations in San Francisco area

SF city is definatly the way to go, although it might be hard with a full time job. Thanks to budget cuts city college has really trimmed it;s class offerings. You should check the schedule, but I bet they only offer day classes for recording. I've actually never taken a recording class there but I ...

Non-recording uses for a 4 track reel to reel

Hello, I have a four track 1/4 inch reel to reel that I would like to integrate into my guitar setup. If trying to ue it as a tape delay are there going to be any sounds I'll be able to get that I can't get with a Boss digital delay or a memory man? This is just with one tape machine so I can't do a...

More newbie drum recording questions

Hello, I posted earlier about recording drums with 2 sm57's and 2 Octava 012's and got a lot of good feedback. I have encountered some more problems. Here is the situation. I have the o12's overhead with one 57 on the snare and another on the kick. The mics are running through a Soundcraft 200B boar...

Re: 2 sm57's 2 Octava mc012 condensors, recording drums, HE

Thanks for the feedback. I tried getting some sounds last night with a little success. I had one of the 012's overhead around the crash tom area. One on the snare towards the rim at a 45 degree angle and the 57 about two feet from the kick. I didn't use the other 57 for lack of a stand. I guess I wa...

2 sm57's 2 Octava mc012 condensors, recording drums, HELP!!

I am recording drums and have two SM57's and 2 Octava sm012 COndensers. I know that these are not ideal mics for recording drums but that's what I got. Does any one have any mic placement suggestions? I'll be running them to a Soundcraft 200B board and then out to a VS-880. I know obviously that I a...

Recording Bass

've been micing the bass cab with a condensor and have been running a cable from the amp head straight into the mixer as well. The only problem is that the track coming straight from the amp head clips even with the pre's all the way down. Ideas? Thanks.-Tyler

Newbie signal path question

I have only ever used a cassette four track and a VS-880 for recording. I currently have a Soundcraft 200B at my disposal and would like to use the pre-amps on it for guitars. While I could get a signal and a sound I liked while monitoring with headphones through the mixer I can not for the life of ...

Re: I need a hero!

Mick Barr of Orthrelm/Crom-tech. The first time I heard a Crom Tech record my jaw dropped to the ground at the speed and ability that this guy possessed. Then, I noticed that I was playing the record at 33rpm when it should have been playing at 45. He was even faster!!! Anyways he is the first guita...

Re: Recording room ambience

Maybe try recording the guitar in the bathroom. Playing acoustic in an empty tub sounds awsome. Try putting your amp in there and see what you get.-Tyler

Want something that isn't going to make my guitar sound like crap as soon as I step on it like the boss super overdrive I'm using now. Do not need it to sound metaley. I have a little Park solid state amp that was the amp I learned on. Ten years later I still find myself using it more fore recording than I do my twins!-Tyler
