Recording Direct Guitar without a pod or amp simulators
Ok. My setup is very basic. Generally I have been going straight in to my pedal chain through a slightly modded art tube mp preamp and then into a fotex digital 8 track. I am only recording guitars. No drums, no bass. I have a macbook that i can use to download freeware but have been having a hard t...

Reaktor 4 as Garageband plug in
I am fairly new to computer recording and am having problems using Reaktor 4 as a plug in with Reaktor. When double clicking a new track in garageband Reaktor FX shows up but I can't seem to access any of Reaktors instruments. A friend told me that this had something to do with Folder organization. I...

Re: Seeking Lap or Pedal-Steel/ Sound Collage (NYC/ Brooklyn
Wow , that sounds great. I am also a old country/singer songwriter, electronic/modern composition, dub freak. Unfortunatly I do not have a lap steel or pedal steel but I do play guiter, often with a slide, have electronic music experience and am interested in collaborating. I know my profile says S....

Re: Big Muff keeps killing signal.
Thanks for the response, While I know four pedals is more than many use, I don't think that four qualifies as "a shitload of pedals". This isn't really a tone issue as I know big muffs have a unique one. My volume decreases by almost half when I clic mine on. Do other Big Muff users experience this?

Big Muff keeps killing signal.
I just got a big muff and upon inserting it into my pedal chain I notice that it reduces the volume significantly when I activate it. I am running a tele through first a Boss overdrive(yellow one), Big Muff, Boss digital delay, Danelectro reverse delay. I have the level on both the Boss Overdrive an...

Re: Smells like indie spirit
"Indie" is in deed just just a troublesome of word now days as "grunge" or "alternative". There will always be labels that are troublesome. Psych-folk, free-folk, noise-rock, free-rock, subteranean metal, doom, avante rock are just a few of the labels that seem to be throne around in my parts these ...

Re: Need New Guitar Amp: brutha's recommend!
If you want a Vox sound the best thing to do would be to save for one. If you can't wait that long I would also look at Music Mans. I just bought a vintage Ampeg gemini II for $400 and love it. It isn't a vox and is only 30 watts but it can hold it's own in a live setting and is great for recording....

Expanding my mic palette
I have two 57's and two Octava 012's. I am in the market for another mic.(preferably just as affordable) If you could recommend one other mike to give me more range what would it be? I would like to have something for micing bass amps that would be good for other applications as well.

I've always liked the sound of reverb tanks being banged around, glass breaking through a delay, any manipulated field recordings or found sounds.

Re: Recording onto Labtop?????
If your laptop has a mic input you can have a very basic recording setup for the cost of a 1/4 inch to 1/8 inch adaptor. You can download audacity for free and bam. Your multitracking.

Things that I have been listening to that are VERY interesting for the recordings alone include:Euphoria-A Gift from Euphoria-Two guys, recorded in L.A. and Nashville, composed orchestras morphing into bluegrass and then again into wierd psych and proto alt-country freakouts a la the Flying Burritto...

Re: Broken gear stories. How did it happen? How much did you
Once I was playing a show in an upstairs venue that had no elevator. I made the mistake of letting my drummer carry my twin up the stairs. The twin was new to me, a vintage blackface. The drummer decided to weel it up the handrail and boom! He dropped it breaking all 6L6's. The only amp at my dispos...

Re: I'm a fullsail student, bare with me
The best tip I can relay from my recording experiences is that if you make the most of what you have and experiment you can pull of some amazing things. I've heard records that I later found out were done on a four track that I swore sounded like they could have been done at Abbet Road or Electric A...
