It's not as small as a laptop by any means, but you might like an AKAI DPS 24.
Since continued, but they pop up for sale every now and then.
Once you figure it out, it's basically like a digital tape machine. Sounds pretty good too!

I wasn't aware of what their real frequency response was, but you make a good point. I guess they were coupling with the stage and really shaking things up which may have given the illusion that there was tons of low end happening too. It sure was fun standing in front of a couple of those, but man,...

You're right about using the DI and people certainly did do it. Maybe they just didn't want the ton's of low end. I didn't start to pay much attention about HOW the sounds were recorded until the later '70s when I got my first 4 track and really developed an interest in recording. At that point my f...

The other thing to keep in mind about this type of bass sound is that in the 60's and early '70's (until the appearance of bass amps like the SVT and Sunn 300 watters) that semi distorted mid - rangy sound WAS the sound of most bass players because that's all you could get out of the amps once volum...

Maybe some folks don't like the 'boofy' tone, but a lot of bass players do. I know a lot of folks who chase this sound now. It's not right for every song but has it's own beauty. This is an example they may have been imitating.

The things that's awesome about that sound is that there is plenty of low end if you listen on big speakers and yet the bass is still driving the song along when hard on tiny little speakers (even on my laptop). I bet it would even come through on an old TV speaker. The essential rhythmic and harmon...

doesn't everyone just use the short time adjuster plug in and delay all the tracks that need it to match the delayed (because of plug - ins) tracks? You can see the delay on each track and then just do the math to add the necessary amount of samples to each track as needed to get them all to line up...

but the first thing I would suggest is to make sure the track you're working on is in Waveform view.

That would be my first guess as well.....having had the same thing happen to me.

I have several. You take two and hinge them together so they will stand by themselves, then add casters - which I think the poster mentioned - and they are very portable, albeit heavy. I've got a few of these kicking around and have found them useful on occasion, but haven't figured a good way to a...

Sometimes I end up working with drum tracks that have been recorded elsewhere and if there's a problem with a kick or snare I'll augment or replace those. I'll open up an older session that I've worked on and grab something (usually close miced) that I had tracked before. It's quick and easy to just...
