Re: The Power is Supply IS Correct, Straight from Dan!

I stand corrected. Great score! Straight from Dan Alexander himself. The Early ones had a Black Power Supply "Box" say like a Brent Averill. The Later Units had a "Harman Kardon" power supply. I thought the same as you, but Dan said 1/2 of these preamps that they made indeed has a wall wart. Also, th...

If you bought that one on eBay, it seems as if all it needs is a proper power supply. The one in the photo is absolutely the wrong one.

I just read the review in SOS yesterday. I found the idea fascinating. Now I want to hear what it sounds like!

I just saw the film last night. Firstly, I enjoyed it and commend Grohl for doing it. Although I am not much of a Foo Fighters fan (I liked the first two), I love his drumming and he seems like a good guy with his heart in the right place. Overall, I learned a lot I didn't know and agree with the or...

Well done!

Tuning aside, I can't fathom why that overdone Cher-type of autotune effect is still being used today as if it's a new thing.

That gimmick has really worn itself out.

Beatles - White Album
Yes - Close To The Edge
Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti
Sandy Denny - Who Knows Where The Time Goes (box)
Shakti - Handful of Beauty

Five is too few. I'd have to try to renegotiate with the powers that be.

Another one is the HEINOUSLY wrong compression on the Mates of State song 'Like U Crazy' from their album Bring It Back. Pumpfest on the drums. Someone should be arrested for scarring a great pop song.

True, but it wouldn't keep me from putting it on. 'Machina' and 'Friends and Enemies...' are so trashed that even when I do take the chance and put them on I'll usually bail pretty soon after. Although the Zwan record is overdone I don't mind it because it doesn't have the high/mid grinding trend go...

After 'Melancholy' the Smashing Pumpkins stuff just got progressively more compressed, trashy and needlessly annoying to listen to.

Off the top of my head: 1. Dark Side Of The Moon - Pink Floyd (gorgeous sounds and big sense of space) 2. Mezzanine - Massive Attack (the engineering peak of the triphop genre) 3. Back In Black - AC/DC (simple sounds and big impact -- hard rock perfection) 4. Folk Singer - Muddy Waters (incredible r...

Sony PCM D50

I've got the Sony PCM D50 and it has been great. It's only flaw is it's inability to record mp3 files (?!). Outside of that, it kicks ass.

Lots of John Lennon's 70s recordings we're crappy recordings... Instant Karma, Walls & Bridges, Mind Games, etc. Also, although there are great things about Queen's productions, there's also a lot of crap sounds on there. Horrible snare sounds. The engineering on the Jazz LP is pretty lame generally...
