New Board = New Setup Questions!

I just replaced my Allen & Heath System 8 board (from 1985) with an Allen & Heath GL 2400 32. I am liking the board quite a bit, but I have a workflow question. I record bands in a studio situation, not in a live venue. I track through the board and feed my computer direct outs with each CH. Right n...

Just worked 2 nights in a row.

And last night.

Mary Gauthier - Between Daylight and Dark

Has anyone listened to this record?
It's produced by Joe Henry.
Very sparse instrumentation that lets the songs shine through.
The simplicity of the songs is astonishing...They just have so much emotional power!
She strikes me as a female Neil Young on this record.
I highly recommend it!

The Timothy Leary album "You Can Be Anything This Time Around" is a jam that includes Stills, Buddy Miles and Hendrix (on bass), plus maybe some other folks. At the time that I listened to it I was under the stars in Vail, Colorado on a warm summer night. It was an amazing experience... Listening to...

Some Cool Demos!

You folks may have heard these, but there are some pretty cool Beatles and Stones "early versions" available at www.captainsdead.com right now. i'm not sure how long this stuff stays posted... it was especially interesting to listen to various takes of Brown Sugar that just didn't gel, or got off co...

SOUND ON SOUND either July or August 2007 issue has a lengthy Rumors article that goes into pretty good detail including drum recording technique.
there is also a VH1-Classic Albums on Rumors that is less detailed, but still has some good tidbits.

Great. I own both sides.
Would you reccomend forming a publishing company? (In general and for this specific purpose).
Or is that not needed?

Thanks,

K.

Music Licensing Question

Not really sure if this is the correct forum for this post, but I think this is the best place to start...here goes... A good friend of mine works at a major TV network in the promotions dept. He has included one of my bands' songs (that I recorded myself no less in my old apartment!) in a promo tha...

I was always impressed with the hi-hat on that record. (amongst all the other impressive elements). It stands out in a very musical way. I'm not sure if it is mixed slightly louder than other hi-hats in similar music from the time period, or the way it is played. Maybe a combo of both. It sounds rea...

New Ween - La Cucaracha

Just bought it today. Like most other Ween it combines multiple styles, humor and excellent songwriting. And in my opinion it sounds very good as well. It has some magnificent drum sounds. Plus each guitar solo has its own appropriate tone for the song. And there are some wacky keyboards too! Anyone...

Lucinda Williams - West

Has anyone else been listening to it? Extremely smooth sounding. (Some may argue too smooth). Her voice has a nice little bite in it. Maybe a tube mic...or maybe just the quality of her voice. There are some really cool sounding clean guitars. Sometimes there's a lead and it sounds like they turned ...
