Remember, your ears will tune themselves to what they are hearing over a period of time. This is why things are muffled when you leave a concert. It takes time for them to readjust. So be careful with your levels and take some breaks.

I,ve had several chances to do this. As far as the vocals go, I've always made sure they were using a half decent dynamic stage mic...maybe SM57 for side rejection. I also invested in some mic splitters. They really eliminate the PA problem, allowing for isolation between their system and yours. Tak...

This is exactly like delaying one side a little bit, except you're modulating the delay time periodically. The reason you have to turn up the chorused (delayed and modulated) side a bit is to compensate for the arrival time difference cues, basically balancing them with amplitude difference cues. Y...

I'm mixing a cd right now where the drummer played great but hardly hit the cymbals. I've had to overdub some in there. The cool thing is that the drummer is my Dad so I get to give him a hard time about it :D .

Pan one hard left, one hard right and then apply chorus to one side. Adjust the wet/dry so that the chorus goes almost out of the audible range (while being soloed). Now play both sides and adjust the volume for each side. I've always had to turn the chorused track up a bit. If you do it right, you ...

John Jeffers posted the link where I got it from. Take some time to fool around with it and you'll get the results you want. Pretty cool plugin. I noticed that the same site has some other plugs too but I haven't tried them yet.

Ok. I found a plugin after some serious searching. It's called "Tape Stop" and it worked perfectly. Thanks. :)

winding down effect?

I was wondering if anyone knows how to simulate the sound of a vinyl record winding down (or being stopped with your hand)? I'm using Cubase SX and I would like to apply it to the end of a guitar track. Thanks

I've been aware of the benefits of bass traps and other acoustic treatments for some time now, but being able to do a comparison of the same person's vocal takes, done in two different spaces, through the same signal chain really put things into perspective. It's a little discouraging because now I ...

At this point, I'd rather have great acoustics

I just heard what effect my room is having on my recordings. I A/B'd vocal takes of the same person done in two different spaces. They are drastically different. The setup was exactly the same (mic, mic pre,etc.). In one room I would have said I have a great sounding mic or mic pre and in the other I...

Does anyone know the process to do this "pocketing" in Cubase SX? Also, Is there a way I can group different drum takes so I can quickly switch between the takes while editing them together?

Monitoring for a Choir?

So there are about 30 people in a choir I'm going to record. They sing to backing tracks and I can't give them all headphones. I'm thinking about using a powered monitor so they can hear the backing track. Does anyone have any ideas about where I could place the monitor in relation to the mics so as...

Re: Please critique this mix. . .

I agree with Lee. The bass guitar is lacking the bottom end to anchor the mix. I think if you get the bass guitar in there the right way it will also balance the brittleness that Lee speaks of. Remember, this is just an opinion. I think your definately on the right track. :)

Re: Need New Guitar Amp: brutha's recommend!

Crate certainly has had a reputation of making the amp that mom and dad bought for their kid who thought he might want to play but threw it in the back of his closet instead. The v series amps are a whole different story though...especially the v30. You are making a huge mistake if you don't atleast...

Re: Your favorite slide guitar solo

I can't believe Warren Haynes hasn't been mentioned. Just about anything he plays is awesome. One of those " know it when you hear him" slide guitarists!
