Re: I wish someone had told me... (newbie thread)

If you give them the CD before they give you the money, get ready for the runaround. I learned that lesson this month. You may be excited to deliver the great stuff you recorded, but once the band has it, your fee is just another bill in their pile.

Re: hard drive platters - recordable like tape?

Joel, that freakin rules. Viva DIY. I did experiment a bit with 14" and 8" drive platters, a turntable, and the guts of a cassette recorder. In repro, I was able to hear a faint noise that seemed like recorded data. I couldn't get it to record, though. I don't understand magnetism that well, but I t...

Re: Logic Express 7

the bummer is that I already dropped $400 on Logic Gold 4.8 for Windows a few years ago. Now that Apple bought Emagic, they won't give me the time of day.

Re: hard drive platters - recordable like tape?

The ones I'm talking about are the big old Winchester/Shugart 8" and 14" platter mechanism. You break into the housing and take out the platter (although busting into the housing can be a pain in the arse). After you dislodge the platter, a regular old cymbal stand (with felts) would work fine. tha...

hard drive platters - recordable like tape?

Do you know anything about the magnetic stuff that hard drives are coated with? I've got some old super-sized 14" drive platters and I wonder what it would take to print analog audio onto one.
