I have a very vague memory that somebody did that with with 5.25" floppies a few years ago.

The ones I'm talking about are the big old Winchester/Shugart 8" and 14" platter mechanism. You break into the housing and take out the platter (although busting into the housing can be a pain in the arse). Do you know anything about the magnetic stuff that hard drives are coated with? I've got some old super-sized 14" drive platters and I wonder what it would take to print analog audio onto one.
