Re: vinyl collecting ( and surrounding planetary atmosphere )

Burned up collections have been a thing around Norther California in recent years, but there is also flooding of the Russian River from time to time resulting in some soggy vinyl. Water damaged albums can be a good way to pick up a decent copy of an album though if you don't mind an imperfect cover....

Re: Complete list of Cassette Multi-Track Recorders and Portastudios

Thanks Mark, that was cool! I liked the cassette dj guy going wild manipulating several machines with a mixer and effects, and Leo the inventor listening to one of the first prototype cassettes which ran in the opposite direction so played backwards on "modern" machines, and his explaining that to h...

Re: Complete list of Cassette Multi-Track Recorders and Portastudios

Interesting discussion, long sprawling thread covering reel to reel decks, cassette multitracks and digital recording protocols Anyone making NEW analog multitrack recorders? "Dolby SR is not a cassette NR. Won't happen. 8 tracks on a cassette, horrible. (this man's opinion) And this machine would h...

Re: What are you listening to today?

Man, you guys are on point! Here's another shot from yesterday. I work in a cool old building designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. This shot has got a creepy dystopian feel. *fyi- some scenes from the film Gattica were made here. https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/c48/shedshrine/patio_fountain.jpg?wi...

Five year bump! Red Skies by the Fixx. I mean what else could you listen to when you look out the window and see this.. about 85 fires going out here at last count. Good thing we were already wearing masks. :shake: https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/c48/shedshrine/Halloween_came_early.jpg?width=...

Re: vinyl collecting ( and surrounding planetary atmosphere )

The Mrs. pointed out that the previous photo was kinda "gucha-gucha", Japanese for messy or unorganized. Fine. Here's a more straightforward shot. But see, the previous had a theme. Unopened media. There's a heavy-duty S-VHS tape for adat recorders, and a cube of 10 unopened TDK minidiscs, as well a...

Before Allan Holdsworth's solo career he played in a few bands, Nucleus, Soft Machine, U.K., Tony Williams Lifetime...and Tempest's first album shown here. The other album pictured, Velvet Darkness: IIRC CTI released some practice tapes as his first solo album without his consent. The guy who owned ...

Re: Complete list of Cassette Multi-Track Recorders and Portastudios

I just have to overcome my inherent laziness. Is there a mod for that? *googles for answer to no avail* I know you use yours for serious work, wondering if you'll end up: 1. Modding the 488 (and being happy.) 2. Selling the 488 and (augmenting with funds raised from your new mod service?) and movin...
