Re: R2R for Archival Project

Thanks kindly everyone for the suggestions. In the process of tracking down a Nagra rental. Seems a lot of the rental houses don't even have them to let any more. If anyone has any leads that would be much appreciated. Follow-up question: would I need a separate pre-amp to go from the Nagra to my i...

Re: R2R for Archival Project

Yeah, as Mark mentioned, Nagra has their own EQ. Find a Nagra (and be prepared to pay).

Re: Guitar Center finally in the cross-hairs?

This isn't the first time GC has gone through this. They are owned by Bain Capital, I believe. One of the shitty Bush related scumbags is a big part of that company, or maybe it was Romney? Those people know how to bleed a company dry, while still getting wealthier... I was in the GC in Peoria about...

Re: RADAR users: need help with session controller

Have you tried contacting iz directly (izcorp.com)? It's been ages since I had any reason to speak to them, but in my experience they were quite friendly & helpful. I contacted IZ and spoke to Raymond, who is awesome and as enthusiastic about radars as I am! radar has changed hands. as I understand...

Re: RADAR users: need help with session controller

My RADAR has been gone for quite a while. In a pinch you could open up the other end of your cable (the one that didn't get messed up) and mimic that on the repair end.

Good Luck.

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

About a month ago a ordered a Mapex Cherry Bomb snare drum. It wasn't a stock item, so I knew I had to wait. Originally the date was estimated for mid December. Then I get an email from Sweetwater saying it was showing up this week. It showed up Friday, it was a little cold, so I let it warm up to r...

Re: Going for it

Lots of really good info here already. I'm going to basically pile on, and maybe add something useful... For sure a dynamic for live/scratch vocal. Use something not to bright in the top or pushed in the midrange. There are a couple of reasons for that. Including, being to actually hear what the dru...

Re: Micing acoustic guitar live recording with loud band

I've had pretty good results putting a lavalier microphone in the sound hole and using some console tape to affix the cable. That and a go-bo between the acoustic and the drums. Huh. Do you end up having to EQ a lot ? I feel like it would sound so boomy and dark. Which is still probably better than...

Went to the thrift store to get weights to go on the bases of my straight mic stands. Saw a silver face adat machine in with the boom boxes and computer screens.
Kept on walking right past it.

Re: Micing acoustic guitar live recording with loud band

I've actually reamped DI acoustic through a clean amp with an LDC about 4-5 feet out for a live record. The band's soundman owned the acoustic and when he heard some of the mixes he said "I told you my guitar sounded good." He was a little crushed to find out what I'd done to get the sound.

As moderator I feel inclined to remind you that there is no such thing as too many mics.
Exactly. That's like telling a woodworker they own too many clamps.
Or a dominatrix.

I mean, somebody told me.

Often a room mic or two. Little Plate can be good, or various rooms from the TC M3000.
