Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

That's a sweet little amp. Does it have a speaker out to run a bigger cab?

Covid-19 takes Adam Schlesinger, Wallace Roney and Ellis Marsalis

Three wonderful musicians so far. Marsalis not confirmed to Covid-19, but symptoms seem to match up.

Re: Pro Tools HDX not Bouncing all Tracks to Disk!

Couldn't do one print and cut it up as every song was it's own PT session - they needed that kind of care. Good thing is client signed off on first pass! I FOUND OUT THE ISSUE FOR SURE: Avid's Pro Multiband Splitter plug-in will not work in Bounce To Disk when in DSP mode. Native mode totally worke...

Re: placing a room mic on amp / phase

I often end up with the mic I set up as talkback becoming the room mic. I think the key is often to have the mic higher, not on the plane the amp is on. I think a room mic at speaker level can have really weird interactions with the floor, but up in the air some (or a lot) works better for me. Omnis...

Re: Coronavirus Plans (what are yours?)

I've got a remote drumming project that is trickling songs in. I've suspended my private teaching, but will do a remote teaching project instead of doing it in person for the university music biz class. I'm thankful for that. I had a long talk with a potential client who contacted me right before sh...

Re: Live Off the Floor in a Small Room

I did a live tracking/rehearsal on Friday that turned out pretty well. I wanted to just get some things down, and have demos of the newer songs before we get into production. 9 tracks of drums, Acoustic DI, Wurly DI and lead vocal all hitting a box PA AND PT. Electric gtr with AXFX I took a DI and m...

Pork Pie Butcher Block 6x14 snare. Really nice crack to it. It is butcher block construction not just a veneer. thick shell.

Re: Got Attic Residue from diffusors

The guy who had my room before I did had done the same thing. As part of my rental agreement, the landlord had a drywall company come in to sand and do a new skim coat. I paid for the painting.

Good luck with the baby and the new space.

Re: recording glock/xylophone

What's you mallet situation? What's the mic placement and the instrument placement? What is the part like. Bells in particular are pretty rough if you don't have good dampening technique. You need to stop the beating notes with you finger. We used to practice scales and arpeggios dampening the previ...

Re: Favorite Hardware Reverb Unit

Lexicon PMC60 for drums Demeter Real Reverb for guitars (maybe Benson Tall Bird rack for longer sounds) EMT 140 for vocals (with custom Hamptone electronics and DynaMount to move the damper) The rest would have to be ridiculous so I do in the box with Valhalla/UAD/Soundtoys/Transatlantic That's a g...

Re: Favorite Hardware Reverb Unit

My two favorites in my rack are the TC M3000. I love the fairly natural sounds, and how easy it is to navigate and alter the presets to the task at hand. I'm sure I'd like the 4000, and prices on the used market seem to be decent. The others is the PCM60. It sounds totally different from the M3K and...

I went sort of nuts recently and bought a Dangerous Compressor and a BLUE-restored Telefunken U48. I also bought a Limpander from Mitch Easter. I'm loving all three!
