Re: Channel Strip Plugins
I use the UAD API strip on the kick a lot. For something like that it's great having everything there in one instance. The SSL one is good too. They both get used a little more when I'm mixing something that I didn't record as I look at them as 'problem solvers'. Another really good one if you have...

Re: New Pro Tools, who dis? "FREEZE"
that site that I put a link to earlier in this thread has an email they send out maybe every week (or two?). It's not spammy, and while I'm not really looking for training (or at least not to pay for it  ), they often have a short, free video (or blog) on new features. I don't always read the ...

Re: New Pro Tools, who dis? "FREEZE"
I think someone told me many years ago "oh, you should use playlists" and I was like "nah, I'm good. this works for me". But then I tried it and NEVER went back. I was an idiot. It saves so much time once you get the hang of it. When I first started with PT I had been on RADAR or tape. I'd do takes...

Re: New Pro Tools, who dis? "FREEZE"
Freeze and commit also an be handy when you've got a trial plugin that worked on a mix, but maybe you've decided you don't want to purchase it. Clip gain is so useful, especially when still in tracking and production mode. Fix errant things, get the track lying how you want it, general balance thing...

Re: Mixing with Hardware - Hybrid
If you're ever driving north through Illinois, stop by and hear mine. That’s awesome, I appreciate the offer! If you're ever driving north through Illinois, stop by and hear mine. I'd be tempted too, but I'd argue with the "north" bit. I'm not quite on the Wisconsin border, but closer to there than...

Re: Mixing with Hardware - Hybrid
But that magic low mids thing IMO is more about balances and eq than ITB or OTB - being very selective about where you add top end and how much is such a big part of it. Can you expand on this a bit? Also agree with the Peter Katis thing whenever possible. I spent a while experimenting with the tap...

Re: The bottom of the snare
 all y'all! That pic reminds me of seeing Iron Maiden circa 1980. Top o' th' page to ya's! You saw Maiden in 1980??? Holy Shit! What size of venue? Where? I'm embarrassed to say I've never seen Maiden or Priest. WTF is wrong with me? My wife has seen both a few times. I saw Priest open for Kis...

Re: Mixing with Hardware - Hybrid
The Bax is pretty clean, yet bold sounding, if that makes sense. You can do a lot with it, Each band can be stereo, mid or side, so once a frequency is chosen, you can audition each option. I got the 1db gain switches and on the mix bus that's kind of a lot (they also offer .5db which might be bett...

Re: Mixing with Hardware - Hybrid
I use my console for summing and an analog mix bus chain. For years it was a Drawmer 1969, which I still think is a great compressor, it's got switched attack and release times. If I keep the threshold and makeup at 0, I could easily make a note in PT for the attack and release for easy recall. A f...

Re: The bottom of the snare
A little late to the game This is my hit making Ludwig Acrolite fully dressed for battle. Bottom mic phased reversed IMG_20220116_194031868.jpeg Good idea with that clamp for the bottom mic. Floor real estate is valuable once the stands start piling up! Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I might ...
