Re: Equality, Equiibrium, what have you!! EQ plugs..
I feel like I have too many plugin EQs and that I don't have one I'm totally in love with. I may like the free TDR Slick EQ best. I use the Waves API in spurts. I'll dig them for a while and then I'll leave it alone. I really like the tone of the McDSP AE400 even if I'm not using the dynamic aspects...

Re: Help Mixing Shakers
The maracas on "SFM" are maracas. One of Mick's many...... "talents." Is SFM a Jimmy Miller production? I feel like all the amazing percussion stuff happened on his records. If you watch the footage of Sympathy For The Devil by the end of the film Keith is playing bass and Wyman and Jones are both ...

Re: Help Mixing Shakers
The maracas on "SFM" are maracas. One of Mick's many...... "talents." For a softer/more controlled sound, hold/cup the gourd end, rather than the handle. You will mute the sound, and those tourist maracas break at the handle all the time, so it is likely an eventuality. An egg shaker would be bette...

Re: Help Mixing Shakers
Here's something I did that was released yesterday. I used egg shakers for the eighth notes, caxixi and tambourines for the backbeat. AA CM251 omni for the shaker and caxixi, AACM67 for the tambourine, both in omni with a bit of distance. Not reverb on the eighths, but Air reverb on the backbeats. h...

Re: Help Mixing Shakers
As mentioned, they don't often need to be super loud to be effective. Careful with reverb, it can really screw it up if it isn't right. Shorter is usually better. I'll usually pan shakers opposite of the hats. Of course, these are mix things. Recording them is often where the problem is. Don't be to...

Re: K&M stands?
Nick, are you referring to the On-Stage Stands SB96? I've been on the fence about that one vs the similar ones like Ultimate Support mc-125, Atlas sb-36, and the K&M Overhead. I'd like a pair of the Atlas or K&M, but money. Disappointing to hear joninc's experience with K&M. The local music store c...

Re: edit/work speed pro tools vs other platforms
I'm sure its what you're used to. I do know that some software makes more sense to me. I can't, for the life of me, get comfortable on Digital Performer. I feel like no one who worked i audio had anything to do with the programming and UI development. Pro Tools makes more sense to me. Most thing tha...

Re: -20.3dBA
I would like to experience an anechoic chamber. I'm fascinated by them. I (like most of us, I assume) always notice the different sound as a walk though buildings. I'd love that experience.

Re: Beyer Mic repair
I recall Beyer not wanting m88s used on bass drum, which is sad, cause its my fave kick mic. FWIW I asked about this when I got mine repaired because it died while being used on kick drum. The guys at United Sound Services said using it on kick drum should not be a problem, BUT mine is the newer TG v...

The 12 Guage are fun. I did the 5 pack with the same models you have. I really should use them more.

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
Recently got 2 pair of the SE Ribbons. The Voodoo VR1 and the active Voodoo VR2. They both sound really good. Punching way above their price range. The active VR2's have a lot of output and both models have worked well with all the pre-amps that we've tried them with so far. Really good high end on...
