Re: Old Colony Mastering build recap

We got the remnants of Michael on Friday morning, after getting a bunch of rain on Thursday, and sweet jesus I could see that my french drains are actually working now. Water streaming out the discharge pipe long after the rain had stopped and the gutters had cleared. What a sight. Did Ms SpaceEcho...

Re: Best Possible Vocal Recording

Slightly OT but amusing, I recorded a lead vocal track a few weeks back with a really nice Sterling ST6050 Ocean Way condensor - I love that mic. Track sounded ... odd, just a poopie-load of reflections. OK, go to record the the BV's and and realize that I had been singinging into the back of the m...

Re: Best Possible Vocal Recording

I'm going to agree with the posts above me. You should start by doing some recording with the pieces you already have. If you are unhappy, its time to start investigating options. A new U87ai is going to hear a lot of your room, so if it is problematic, that mic will point it out. Some simple and ef...

Re: One Neve Channel to Rule Them All

I had an Aurora GTQ2 that sounded quite nice. Its got a simple but effective 3 band EQ on each of its stereo channels.

Re: EQ when mixing

I go by the theory thatEverything is an EQ https://messageboard.tapeop.com/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=31607&hilit=February+sticky#p288505 , so I'm EQing a lot. By that I mean that I'm choosing sources, mics, compressors etc, for the tone that works with the musical idea, in context of the things already ...

It looks fantastic Senior Echo. I look forward to sending you more things that you will return sounding better than when I sent them to you.

Re: EQ when mixing

I EQ as necessary. It might not be a lot of elements of the mix, but they might have "extreme" EQ. A couple things might just get a minor massage of EQ, and many elements may not see any EQ. Is there a Harbor Freight in your area? They have a few suitable things for cheap, including Pelican knock offs.

Shannon at Mic Rehab in Nashville might be able to help. I'd send him an email.

Its pretty interesting. It looks like one of those hospital tables. I think I prefer it to be a little smaller and non-reflective. It looks very well built,

Re: Garage Studio Build

It ends up with the same rigidity as styrofoam. It's got some give if you push it but it fairly hard and the surface is sort of glossy. Not a biggie either way once the drywall and treatments go in. I was always curious about that. I've seen the stuff from a can, that also does the glossy thing, bu...
