Re: Flood Recovery

I'm really sorry to hear about this, Dave.

I agree with people who suggest opening everything up and getting some air flow happening. Take the bass drum totally apart, get the lugs, legs and any mounting hardware off and let the wood dry.

GOOD LICK!!!

Re: Amek Einstein 80-channel automated console, Queens NY

Hi I know this is a few years back but would you be able to refer us to your tape tech Carl Faruggia? Getting hard to find guys who work on these and I hear he’s the best! Thank you - G IF you can't find Carl, Check in with Dave Rochester at http://techaud.com/wp/ Technical Audio Services. He was a...

Re: Dave Grohl- Play (mic spotting)

The acoustic guitar mic -- I don't know the vintage mics all that well, could be some weird early Schoeps Collette mic or Lomo or something, but I think the Shure KSM 141 is shaped kinda like that. Yeah, I thought of that too cause that's a pretty handy mic for an acoustic instrument. I own a pair ...

Re: Using my Analog Pres with my Computer

Looking at the Focusrite site, there is an Optical input. I think you'd need another 8 channel onverter with optical out to add more inputs to your unit. You could then plug the line outs from your outboard pres to that add on and have if go oprical out to the Focusrite's optical in.

Re: Let's talk substance

I'm a pretty substance free person. I drink a handful of times a year, and NEVER when making music in any capacity. As to the after session thing, I call it studio haze. After the focus I try to have during session, I leave and I'm kind of floating in the either, in a way. If I meet people for dinne...

Re: Dave Grohl- Play (mic spotting)

The studio is East West (Studio 1), formerly Cello, formerly Western (I think) designed by Bill Putnam. I know that floor anywhere, I did a little tribute to in on my control room floor. That's a Neve 8078 console. A literal shit ton of music was made in that room. http://www.eastweststudios.com/stu...

Re: When you love a LIMITER

Speaking specifically to your BD mention, I usually compress BD during tracking. When I'm mixing, I usually have a parallel compressor on the drum set, so if there's still an issue I might compress the BD at its channel or as its own parallel. Prob (as you brought up) I'd target those random guys wi...

Re: Opinions - ART VLA

I still use my VLA, but not on the mix bus. I've never tried it there to be honest. I still like it a lot on bass and Wurly. Sometimes it works on a vocal or a clean guitar or solo. Generally I use hardware on the way in.

Re: Frequency Sweeping/Unwanted Frequency Help

I think, if you're hearing the wind tunnel sounds you're sweeping to quickly and not listening to what's actually happening. You're hearing the sweep, but not hearing its effect it is making on the mix. When one thinks of EQ the question should be why. Why are you going to EQ? Are two things clashin...

Re: Reverb Help

The Logic Pro Designer sounds pretty cool from what I read in the post just above this one, but isn't that just for Logic? I have PT. It seems like the stock Logic plugs are infinitely cooler than what PT serves up. Yes, it is only for Logic Pro. BUTT: I use a laptop running Logic, with a multichan...
