Re: fear for fingers
I've always been conscious of what I do with my hands. It doesn't stop me from banging myself up in day to day life (knives, walls, cars all get me on occasion). I'm kinda klutsy. My problem is a ton of chronic pain in the rest of my body. I see the chiropractor every other week and that's just to k...

Re: The bottom of the snare
wasn't someone just joking about that snare buzz plug? yeah, I may hafta do that; my drummer is a minimalist, doesn't keep old stuff, unlike me whose house is, as my daughter says, "like living inna guitar store" It actually works. I've used it on a track where I didn't like what the mic I used und...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
I ordered an Eastwood Classic 12 B-stock at 40% off. I've been lusting after one for a while. I wanted a different color, but $449 for a $749 guitar was too good of a deal to pass up. Do you play any other electric 12s? I got a Schecter Ultracure xii awhile back on a similar good deal, but not hist...

Re: Creating depth in mixes
This is an interesting topic that I rarely think about... I guess mostly because I'm really a live sound mixer, which has different goals and needs sometimes. In particular I tend to think in terms of the arrangement - what needs to be heard? Obviously in a live show it's hard to leave out the stuf...

Re: The bottom of the snare
I always mic the bottom. If I get tracks from somebody with no mic on the bottom I re-amp the snare track with a snare drum sitting on top of a Fender Pro Jr and mic the snares there. I almost always have an 1176 plug on the bottom snare fast attack/slowest release. now I just needa snare ... :twis...

I went with Mike's suggestions. I'm itching to try the Altec clone, and I just like the idea of MorphVerb

Re: Snares - what’s everyone using nowadays?
Next the Bison 5x14 mapel 10 lug that was a college graduation present from my folks. That was Number 1 for a lot of years I played blues and rock gigs all over with that one. It even went to CBGB with me in '95 I think. Been in the room with this one. I’m not a drummer and usually don’t know what ...

Re: Any opinion about molded earplugs ?
A couple tidbits from my time using molded earplugs: The fit is critical - if the molds aren't made right, they won't seal, and therefore don't work. For them to be useful, they have to go as deep as a foam earplug would. They have a limited lifespan - the material they're made of hardens as it age...

Re: Snares - what’s everyone using nowadays?
The Mapex stuff should not be slept on, it's affordable and really well made. The owner of the company seems to be a true drum geek. One of the videos where they compare a bunch of snares had the hammered 14x6.5 brass Mapex and it sounded phenomenal. I went back several times to that vid and others...

Re: Snares - what’s everyone using nowadays?
MMMmmm Snare drums. I've got around a dozen. I'm not sure how I should categorize them. Age, material, depth, frequency of use, number of lugs? So, My very first snare (and I do still have it) is a Slingerland 6.5x14 3 ply mahogany Student model probably from the 50s, 8 lug with the old "stick chopp...
