Re: RANT: "in your spare time.."

The challenge for me is squeezing in little small things (mix revisions, stems, etc) when my schedule gets busy - and I'm pretty firm on having specific days off and keeping to a 9 hour day. So I'm trying to build a bit more buffer into my month so there's a little margin for this extra stuff and i...

Re: New Barn Studio build out

Yeah, it's reflective, but probably no worse than untreated sheetrock so it's not replacing acoustic treatment. You mean just leaving this stuff exposed on the outside and not putting sheetrock over it? My ultimate plan is to cover the inner walls with hardwood for whatever sonic character I can ge...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

My story is similar to both of yours. Decesed church organist's family selling an M3 before they moved. $50 out the door. I'm about due to for an oiling. I have a Leslie 147 and a combo preamp to pair it with. Total prized possessions for me. Remember to use the "official" oil. Here: http://www.ton...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

Picked up a 1958 Hammond M-3 organ. Super stoked!!! I got some oil for it, and once that is in, I can go through it and see if it needs any repairs. It looks mint. One previous owner, sat in her living room for decades. She passed, her son had to get rid of it. The oil cost me more than the organ, ...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

I picked up a DW foot tambourine for some acoustic gigs where I'll be mostly playing my 5 gallon water bottle as a hand drum, but I have it with my drumset for the moment.

Re: Not Really Recording Related but.....

TRUE STORY: Back at my old loft in Boston, my upstairs neighbor was the drummer for Blue Man Group AND he was very short. I have three or four friends who've played with BMG in various cities. They're all total badasses, too. One of them is pretty tall. Chris Garges Charlotte, NC One of the...

Re: Not Really Recording Related but.....

I'm told there's a Facebook page dedicated to fucked up drum setups. People send in craigslist ads and such that are obviously people like parents and stuff who have no idea how to set up drums that their kids stopped playing and want to sell.

Re: RANT: "in your spare time.."

I think for me if it's going to take more than 5 minutes to do whatever the spare time task is, then I would probably respond something like, "Sure, I will try to fit that in tomorrow. I estimate that will take about 2 hours" (or whatever) and make sure they understand it's going on their bill. - e...

Re: Should it stay or should it go?

I never sell anything, even though I should. I have an Orban EQ I never use, and an SPX900 that sometimes gets used as predelay to the plate. I bought on of those mic robots, and never use it. Its sitting in the box... That said, I think the Ashley is super cool, and I'm keeping mine even if its onl...

Re: Cymbals/How far to go

I knew that about Rubel - he's here sometimes, right? Around that same time, Slink Rand was a local guitar hero, his gig-mobile was a hearse. After UofI I went to NIU. Jimmy Chamberlin was playing regularly inna cover band there - cool to watch him improve, which he seemed to do incredibly quickly ...

Lotsa great bands, besides Stronghold, Jason and the Scorchers were the Friday happy-hour $3 cover band for a few months, Elvis Bros., Vertabrats, Off Broadway, Capt. Rat ... I bartended a...

After that,we stole Winos' keyboard tech, the lovely Joey Huffman when SA added a keyboard guy (B3/Wurly). Hafta laugh-one show,Ivan Neville was "under the weather",and kept passing out between songs,so he made Joey bring him a bunch of chocolate cake, which he ate between songs. Those are both aweso...

Re: Drum overhead comparison in GJ setup

I did a review of the mic and another of their mics for Recording Hacks and that's how I got my pair, after I did the review. those mic bodies look similar to the Advanced Audio CM47 and CM48 - which are really all just kinda standard mic bodies coming out of China -- but the recording hacks descri...
