Re: shedshrine build 3.0 - furniture, cats, gear, enlightenment, and yer mom, man
Whoever owned that one really hated E strings. or had some kind of contest with the bass player? oh yeah? I can play with 4-strings... watch me! then again I thought I heard The Presidents of The United States of America did that album without all strings... Yeah, the Presidents were a 3 or 4 strin...

Re: Recording Trends/Techniques that drive you nuts
WTF is with that!!!! It's so goddamn annoying. More often than not, it isn't all recorded in stereo. I've found that many people don't really know how to export (or even how to set up a mono track in their daw...) Yea, that's it. Almost none of it is, which is what is so irritating. I have to go th...

Re: Cymbals/How far to go
i'm a 5B basher and have been cracking cymbals for much of the 25 years I've been playing. I kept a few that had sentimental value and recently sent two busted rides to a local cymbal maker to machine them down into a pair of 16" hihats. It was like $150 and well worth it to give some busted cymbal...

Re: Recording Trends/Techniques that drive you nuts
Then don't you just have another mind numbingly boring round of file management to re-export the tracks in mono so you can then commence work? BTW this file management stuff is my least favorite part of the job. Detail-oriented, and you're not hearing any music. A lot of the processes take 30 secon...

Re: Recording Trends/Techniques that drive you nuts
And I would gently remind you that your non-brilliant visionary made Back in Black. That Power Station room is so completely insane. Not hard to imagine drums sounding good in there. Glad I didn't have the job of putting the wood up though. J Hall (who some of you may remember) and I came up with a...

Indeed. I might do something like that, but I'll need a right angle piece as well.

That's a great story Rodge. Editing creatively, evocatively, beautifully is fantastic. You had a FANTASTIC idea to start with, and your talent and instinct lead to something wonderful. Please bump this when it's released so we can all enjoy it.

Re: Recording Trends/Techniques that drive you nuts
Even our in-jokes and proposed pranks are geeky. :D  :high:  Was thinking about this thread last night, do you guys think that Cars' first record drum sound was the precursor to the much-hated Def Leppard drum sound? This doesn't seem like a stretch to me, that Cars drum sound was th...

Re: Recording Trends/Techniques that drive you nuts
I love the Classic Albums series, but haven't (and honestly probably won't) watch the Def Leppard or Fleetwood Mac ones, because I just don't care. The literal last thing I want to know about is how Hysteria was made. I don't want any of the shit creeping into my psyche and/or records. So Tony does...
