Taking Your Tracks to a Professional Studio

As I near the finish of another project, mildly dissatisfied with the overall mix of sounds, I'm wondering if you've had the experience of taking your modestly-recorded tracks to a professional studio to have them "gussied up" and mixed there. I guess I'm picturing a professional studio, having nift...

Thanks everyone, very helpful! We wound up using the boost. I like that detailed high end on a snare, and I'm used to dialing that in with EQ when we use a 57 (and/or finding it in the overheads' pickup). We tried the set up a bit further back but it kind of became target practice for our man's stic...

Sennheiser 441 on snare: question

Engage the treble boost switch or no? Do you have a preference?

We will also be mic'ing the bottom of the snare with an SM 57.

The problem for us is that we track and record in the same hall, so our ability to monitor and compare sound is somewhat compromised.

Re: How many crappy albums have you bought?

Mostly I am disappointed rather than thinking the album outright sucks. My latest would be the Arcade Fire. It's really a good, solid album--if you like Echo & the Bunnymen/Joy Division sort of stuff. I don't happen to. Plus it is very repetetive, a lot of the same musical idea. I have tried to list...

Re: Class act(neo) Conservative mailers

The wheels were in motion, no doubt. I'm just talking about a hypothetical scenario where we elected a leader who took a reasonable stance toward the middle east. Clinton definitely shares the blame with everyone else for it. He appointed Madeline Albright (a jew) to negotiate a peace agreement bet...

Re: Where are all the ladies?

If sexism is a part of it, I would have to think it is only a very small part of it. There isn't a professional woman who doesn't have to deal with a wink-wink boy's club at some point, but I think such obstacles are increasingly surmountable. Far more likely it is simply that technical careers have...

Re: Hilarious: John Stewart on Crossfire- must see

TIf John O'Neil wanted to slam Kerry (he's been doing it for 30 years now) on cable news every night for 2 weeks, they should have asked him to bring some fucking facts with him first. The Media gave credibility to their claim just by letting them on TV. Something has to change. Great post all arou...

Re: Shocked

by the way, if there is anything that is difficult in this issue it is reading history about it. both sides have worked very hard to distort the truth. but the israeli POV really dominates the work in the english body of literature. what history did you read? Um...yeah, well, it wasn't a history pe...

Re: Shocked

But, there HAS been a flood for well over 40 days and 40 nights. Unfortunately, it's been the U.S. flooding Israel with $$$ and taking their side in nearly every UN vote regarding Israel / Palestine issues.. We have also provided millions to the Palestinians. I used to be like a lot of you guys--ou...

Re: Shocked

Do Palestinians have a right to defend themselves from having their homes bulldozed? The media/politicians frame the Palestinians as terrorists or militants. And Israel is always seen as defending itself even though attacks are traded back and forth and innocent people (sometimes children) killed o...

Re: Shocked

Edwards - against Palestinians - against gay marriage So you're against Israel's right to defend itself? Come on. I was proud of Edwards's statement on that issue. I thought he did a great job (until he brought Cheney's daughter into it--that won't go over well). Cheney looked almost human, too. It...

Maybe he just wanted you there so he wouldn't have to lean over and click "record" himself. This is very common behavior for friends seeking your professional advice/assistance. Because you are their peer, they assume your opinion is only worth their understanding of your opinion. You are doing a ve...
