Electro Harmonix NY2A for sale// SOLD
Electro-Harmonics NY2A Stereo Optical Compressor/Limiter. Mint condition, in a non-smoking mastering studio, one of the early units to roll out of the factory. I got it new, straight from JC Morrison who designed it. These are no longer being made, because EH's Mike Matthews doesn?t give a damn abou...

Oddly nobody has mentioned the origin of M/S mic'ing -- an M/S pair. A figure 8 mic with the lobes facing hard left and right, with a cardioid mic facing forward, as close together as possible. The 8 gets multed to 2 channels, panned hard L/R and one channel is flipped out of phase. You then have th...

thanks so much for all the information... this record has been on constant rotation for the last week and a half. ps when i say smeary, i don't mean it in a negative sense. i mean it in the sense that i feel i am in a big room and the sounds are bouncing off of the walls and washing into each other...

Not one mention of the lowly Paia tube mic pre, I am surprised... Sure you have to build it yourself, which means you get to see just how basic the circuit is, and of course no fancy transformers, just plain jane differential coupling, a frighteningly saggy power supply and no Burr-Brown parts, but ...

Re: smeary (am I liking this word?) -- the mic bleed probably has a lot to do with it -- especially on the songs with strings, which had some isolation (maybe gobo's?), but not much. Like I said, I didn't track it (and of course I wish I had), and I would have kept mics a bit farther off the piano a...

Hmmmm, it is a large question, but I can answer some of it. I didn't do the tracking -- most was done at ye olde Sorcerer, now defunct, and some bits at a place called Dubway, both in NYC. The Sorcerer stuff sounded the best coming in, not sure what the mics were though they had a nice collection of...

There should be no need smother the Federal with H-pads, though as a last resort that would be the way to go. This isn't like a Gates SA39B, designed to drive a transmitter at +26 with 2 6V6's driving the output. It's a mildly tuned +4 unit. The key is to get the threshold set properly, and the thin...

Re: Holy Crap: NY2A
Sorry to disappoint honkyjonk, but I have to agree with Hamilton, Tonebass and of course the emminent Greg Calbi: the NY2A is superb and probably cheap at twice the price (OK 1.5 times the price). I got a loaner from EH and it made its way into the chain immediately. Ran signal through it and right ...
