Re: dbx project 1 266?
That Project 266 was my first compressor. I sold it after it kept clicking when grabbing onto a bass guiatr signal. Now I realize it might have been my fault, but I'm glad it's gone anyway!

Re: witnessing a recording session
You know, I'm thinking about this and then I'm like, "If someone mentioned an album I actually worked on I'd laugh." and luckily no one did but I started thinking about how boring it is when I'm at a session and not playing or recording, and how even doing those things can be boring, like the shots ...

Re: Saw Calexico last night
The studio in Tucson where Calexico record is WaveLab, run by Craig Schumacher who runs the TapeOpCon events too. All the Calexico records are pretty darn good. They borrowed some of our instruments from Jackpot! to play an instore in Portland!

Re: tax question
Pay with a money order and write what it was for and who it went to on the receipt. I use a bookkeeper/CPA team who kick ass on the IRS. I write off most everything I do...

Re: Recording copyrighted music in the studio
If someone hires you to do the recordings, it's their gig what they choose to do with these recordings once they leave the studio as far as clearances, copyrights or anything. If a client came to my studio and recorded themselves singing over the top of a Debby Boone record that's fine. Most likely ...

Re: What's the best external hard drive for backing up my fi
Why not just use the backup drive for backup, and use your second drive for audio recording? That's what I do, here's why. Your software never gets confused about where audio will be, the backup drive (Fantom FireWire 120 Gig for $200) get's very little actual spinning time, probably increasing its ...

Free Noise Reduction software?
Does anyone know where I could find a "trial" of any noise reduction software to try out? I've got a cassette-recorded project to salvage. I'm running PT6.1 on a G4 Mac on OSX. Are there any plug-ins that do this? I'm clueless!

Re: us against them....
Really it comes down to the idea that clients should really think about where they are recording and why. That's why there's so many different studios all over the place. It's so important to meet the engineer beforehand and talk about what you're gonna do and how. Ana also just to see how y'all get...

Re: Larry Crane a Teacher?
If the class goes well there may be more, plus taking it on the road is a good idea, though it'd probably cost more to cover more expenses, travel, studio rental. accomodations, time away from Jane, etc.

Oh, this might be some great Tape Op fodder indeed. I need to know what people don't know, if that makes sense!
