Re: New Pro Tools, who dis? "FREEZE"
Back to "Freeze" and "Commit": 1. I use Commit A LOT for when I've used Auto Align 2 to fix drum phase - I want to use a lot more plug-in on these tracks after and the Delay Compensation can get overloaded. 2. I will use PT's Multiband Splitter feeding 4 Aux tracks, Commit (must be done in real time...

Re: Quirky Mastering Situation
Please find a way to listen to the masters after actually downloading them and playing them back over something approximating a decent stereo system. This quote makes me crazy: "I don’t know why you think someone needs a high end monitor system to make and listen to music." Because you need to know ...

Re: Daking service
Geoff is a friend of mine, so I'm biased, but I'm glad to hear he treats people right. He knows, as a few others do, that his gear working proper out in the field is 10x better than broken gear not being used! I've had some older preamps for ages now, and never an issue!

I know this is a diff ecosystem but Apple does a pretty easy Screen Share thing. I think it's usually Screen Mirroring or "casting" on PC.

Re: amps vs. simulators
Next issue of Tape Op has a long review of the UAFX Guitar Pedals. The amp/speaker simulating stuff seems pretty cool, and I could see building a DI gtr recording rig with these boxes for sure. I love moving air wit am amp and putting up mics, but there are lots of times I'd love to have the sound e...

Re: Electronic version - how are you reading it?
After the UK edition went broke we were unable to afford to ship mags to the UK/EU/etc. Currently we can ship them to you via Vompire, but it's £5.00 per mag and £19.00 to ship a single issue. This is not our fault! You can always order all issues as backorders, but when tried to set up a paper inte...

Re: transient designers
Don't be afraid to put a TD after a compressor on a kick drum and reduce or increase the sustain/hang of the kick's low fundamental if needed.

Re: mixing bass with hard snappy plucks
If you get a chance when tracking people that play like this grab a screwdriver and set the bass pickups deeper into the body/pickguard.

Re: mixing bass with hard snappy plucks
iZotope RX via standalone and I'll do minute little tweaks with Gain module usually. Reducing gain on the brighter parts and leaving the body intact.
or putting those exact spots on their own track and treating differently with EQ and such.

Yeah, we have a lot of funny stuff, like cheap Rogue sitar guitar, Squier VI bass, flat wound-only Hamer bass, Danelectro Baritone. Stylophone!

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
We bought a $199 Fender Squier "Tele 51" and had the shop string it up Nashville style. Can't wait to use it on seasons! I haven't even plugged the guitar into an amp yet!

Re: What amp are folks putting behind NS-10Ms?
We have a cheap Hafler amp that works fine. Hafler Trans-Nova P-1500. I've worked in studios that had McIntosh powering the NS-10m's, and I don't know that I could say the speakers got any better!
