Maximizing the RAM will definitely help, but you might need an upgraded CPU to beat the processor crunch. I upgraded a Dell Optiplex GX260 P4 2.0 GHZ to 3.2 GHZ through powerleap.com. (b3groover's point is well taken, I think my upgraded CPU had faster cache and FSB as well, though I don't remember ...

The best thing would probably be to export identical-length .WAV files of individual instrument tracks (preferably out of your old PC) and open them in whatever Mac-based DAW you're using now to finish the song. If you need to use Windows on a Mac for audio apps, I'd go with Boot Camp instead of Par...

I've opened Pro Tools Free sessions (based on 5.1) in OS9 into Pro Tools 7 LE on OSX with no problems, just by clicking on the project file. I would just make sure if you're using any plug-ins (Waves etc.) in the 5.1 that you have a versions installed on the 6.? system. Also (common sense territory)...

Reviving an old thread rather than starting a new one as it's all parts of the same pig... I attempted to master some songs for 7" vinyl. 4 songs, 2 on each side, just under 6 minutes on each side. Here's a comparison of the original mix for one of the songs and the test pressing I got back from the...

For the sake of argument can I ask what the studiomate thought?hiddendriveways wrote:
My studiomate and I watched it together and we discussed this afterward. We agreed that the sound was amazing, but didn't really agree on how it was achieved.

Unfortunately, now a few third-party apps (Reason, Guru, RTAS to VST Wrapper) are no longer showing up. I've tried a total uninstall and re-install of GURU and the Wrapper, to no avail. Any tips there? Could repairing permissions in Disc Utility help? Make sure you're really getting rid of everythi...

Only had a chance to listen to the first 3 mixes...I see what you're saying about balancing a lot of acoustic instruments in the first song especially. People have already suggested giving each instrument its own EQ range and I second that...You could also try bringing the levels of instruments up a...

I traded in my NS-10s for RP-5s because I couldn't deal with the lack of low frequencies. Now I look at "world-class" studio pictures and they all have NS-10s and I wonder if I made a mistake...but like everyone here says, it's more about knowing how your setup will translate in the real world, WHA...

Definitely a new one for us Yanks. :) My co-engineer has just been going on an on about an extended loom (as in antiquated sewing machine) metaphor in Moby Dick. Loom on the brain... So translated, I believe you're essentially asking for 8x1/4" TRS to 8x1/4" RCA. From what I know Hosa is the ...

I have been amazed at how good the small, older tannoys are... like the PBM series, and also the smaller KRK's... I have been looking into getting some small KRK's for my apartment.. simple, powered, small... but quality... A pal of mine had a pair of those smaller KRK's in his studio as a "C" moni...
