I've noticed that Lomo heads for Oktava MK012 are being offered on eBay recently. As I have a couple of MK012s, I'm interested. Anyone have/use these? If so, what do you think?

Here's a cut I made using two Shure 330s as X/Y overheads, an M88 on kick drum, and NO snare mic. I think it sounds pretty good. No EQ or compression, not mastered.

All else being equal (which of course it never is), small-diaphragm mics will have less off-axis coloration than LDCs, and they are generally more accurate. Their down side is noise, but that shouldn't be a factor in drum overheads.

A similar question: what precautions should you take with tube gear and temperatures? If you think about it, tubes and point-to-point wiring are more able to withstand temperature changes than are transistors and printed circuit boards, as expansion and contraction can not have as much of an effect...

Really depends on the size of your room. My living room is huge, with high ceilings, and I love my Altec Valencias. Smaller room -> smaller speakers.
