Hi, I am in need of some advice concerning mastering sessions. I'm finishing up on an album and am in need of mastering. With the 2 previous albums i've recorded, i've sent my recordings off to this mastering engineer who has mastered a lot of the albums i've enjoyed and like. I've been happy with t...

transfer cubase session to radar?

Hi, I have some stuff I've recorded at home on a moktu 828mkii on Cubase at 48khz/24-bit that I'm going to have mixed at a studio. The studio has a radar 24 system. Is there way to transfer my sessions over to the radar system? I'm assuming, I'll just have to export each wav file over, but I'm wonde...

Re: why are low-watt guitar amps better for recording?

cool...thanks for all the replies so far...so i guess i'm wondering which low-watt amps i should look into getting now... for those familiar with the bands i mentioned (fugazi, blonde redhead, cursive)... something with a full bottom end, 'cause smaller amps can sound a little shrill when you drive ...

why are low-watt guitar amps better for recording?

Hi, Can someone explain to me why low-watt guitar amps are good for recording? Is this necessarily the case when you are trying to make a driving, rock record? i'm trying to find a 2nd amp to get a different color for my recordings. all i have at the moment is a twin reverb. can anyone recommend a g...

Re: examples of good "cold" sounding records?

i think the coldplay and the last 2 radioheads kind of sound lifeless. they're way too polished and lacking in dynamics.... but i think there's a difference between a lifeless sounding record and a cold sounding record. a cold record can still have some life in it. for instance, the joy division rec...

Re: examples of good "cold" sounding records?

undoubtedly the music and instrumentation itself is a big determinant of making a song cold... i guess the original intent of post (other than just to get other ppl's perspective on what "cold" means) was to say, if i already have these set of songs that i feel sound cold, what kind of recording app...

Re: examples of good "cold" sounding records?

kinda stems from joy division, but the new order records sound really cold to me. there was this period around 1985 where basically every single thing had that sound. tina turner, bryan adams (run to you!), devo, mr. mister, lisa lisa and the cult jam, men without hats (antartica!)...and on and on ...

Re: examples of good "cold" sounding records?

i should check out the chills record. i guess instrumentation is key in making things cold, but your suggestions for eq'ing and reverb sound like good points to start on. it's interesting about the VU songs u mentioned and some of the yo la tengo, while i find that stuff stark, it still seems warm t...
