thanks for the feedback. i'm less thinking about the commercial factor for the bigger name, but i do think working with him might be more of a unique experience and result in a mix that's more unique. I guess I'm just wondering if I should let my lukewarm experience with his manager color my impress...

help me decide between two mixing engineers
I'm in a situation where I'm trying to decide between two mixing engineers to mix an album I've recorded. The situation is as follows: 1) I have an opportunity to work with a "big named" mixing engineer. This person has mixed several records that I have liked in the past. The only issue I have ran i...

creating space but not necessarily separation in the mix
this might be a general, subjective question, but i'm looking for ideas or tips for creating space in my mixes, but i don't necessarily want each instrument/track in my mix to be distinct and separable. i like how push and pull of certain instruments blend together resulting something greater than t...

looking for electronic musician/producer for collaboration

FS: AKAI MG1212 mg-1212 mixer/recorder
i'm moving and selling my akai mg1212. it's a 12 track mixer/tape machine built in the 1980s and used by artists such as U2. the tape recorder portion doesn't seem to be working. i've been mainly using it as a analog mixer for my DAW and each of the 12 channels contains a pre-amp and 3 band parametr...

i have the 2006 mod, with the internal clock modified. are you implying that getting something like a fireface 400 is not going to be much of a improvement in sound... it would be nice to have something a little more portable... maybe it would be worth putting my money elsewhere, like another mic / ...

thanks for the info so far. i usually write as i track, so i have been making rough mixes as i go along to imagine how all the parts fit together and to figure out what parts i need to add or change. some of the plugins i've used (delay or funny EQ) i would say contribute to the inherent sound of th...

(fireface 800) OR (fireface 400 + motu 828mkii/BLA combo)?
hi, i currently own a motu 828mkii with the black lion audio mod. i'm thinking about upgrading audio interface, particularly my converters. i primarily do solo recording. i would say the only time i really ever record more than 2 channels is when i am recording drums, which is less than 10% of the t...

question for those of you who mix other people's recordings
question for you mixers out there who often mix tracks that either a band has recorded themselves or other engineers have recorded... how often do you run into a situation where, as you are mixing, you find the song difficult to mix either because you are not quite sure how to approach the song and/...
