I?ve personally liked a spaced pair of LCDs about 3 ft away pointed at the body and 12th fret. I find it has a nice balance. But as someone mentioned earlier, playing style is essential to how the player is miced, in this case more so than a regular acoustic guitar. Good luck, let us know what you g...

high end open-back headphones
Ok. I'm currently using a pair of Sony V900s. They're nice, but then I heard a pair of low end grados. The open-back design just felt so much more comfortable and cleaner. So now I'm in with some extra cash and I'm looking at getting either the AKG K-701s or Sennheiser HD-650s. I'm going to use thes...

Re: Miles!
I vote for the Miles Davis Quintet from the mid-60's with Ron Carter, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and Tony Wiliams. Some of the most remarkable group interplay ever. Although the compositions have strong themes and the playing is souful and passionate, their is something very non-linear going on;...

I like the VLA with a Groove Tubes GT55 for vocals (depending on the singer), it's also cool for micing bass with an LCD. Although uncoventional for most of us here, the EH sounded cool with a baby bottle on a bass cab. As I record more I realize that recording is an art because of its subjective na...

im probably going to be recording some drum tracks, and im going to be doing this on the drumset at my church, so im going to have an omni like 20 feet from the set i think and im gonna compress it to hell. Like said above, thats prolly the sound ur looking for, I would suggest using a cardiod LCD,...

Thanks guys, the complements mean a lot. Especially from a group like this. The guitar player was very sloppy. And on top, he had the gain syndrome. So, the guitar tones were pretty horrid. I wish they were usable, but to no avail. I'm actually glad we recorded guitars later (as I had a heavy...
