I've been having the same problem until recently. I have a very similar room set up for tracking drums. I've gone through a few overheads, recently I tried a couple avenson omnis spaced and it did the job. I'm not saying to necessarily get avensons, but see if you can borrow a pair of omnis. Unfortu...

clicky bass- how do i get rid of it?
I'm doing a pop alternative rock mix and the bass is just terribly clicky. The bass player suggested using the DI on his Eden amp.For some reason I said yes and we didn't use my DI. So what I have now is a terribly clicky bass. He was using a Musicman bass (Sub series). I really hate these basses, t...

i personally like the baby bottle quite a bit for vocals as do a couple other engineers i know. it tends to cut pretty nicely, especially with a tube pre. be careful though-there seems to be talk around here as if the newer version of this mic isn't as good. i guess they aren't being made in latvia ...

1. 1 bass drum 2. 1 snare top 3. 1 snare bottom 4. 1 room about 10' away 8' up that's the easy part. all you need now is: a good room and a good drummer, if possible. unfortunately without either one of those it's gonna be difficult. good luck. if you get both you're golden. that's with the assumpti...

they have really high output - you need to insert an inline pad or it'll be smashing the front end of your preamp. I thought they were broken until I stuck pads in there - now they're great there. having a pad is a small price to pay. i love how this mic has such a high output. i wish i could affor...

I really dig 70s guild dreadnaughts, and they're not that pricey. You can find one for around $600. Great balanced tone; it has a nice sweet midrange. I find that newer guitars like Taylors are just too bright and sound scooped, while some of the low end Martins just have no high end at all (as if y...

I'd suggest the AT Pro37. It's so useful on so many sources. And they are CHEAP. That was my suggestion but Linus beat me to it. The Pro37 is cheap, versatile, and small. Good on snare and toms - lots of attack plus a high db tolerance before overload. And Albini really does like it. I love this mi...

Mono overhead/distance mic in a large room...yummy. Last recording I did had no overhead, just a mic 10' up and 20' away; one of the nicest sounds to hit my ears. That was the first time using only a mono distance mic. Then I got home with a small room 16x14x8 , but still a kmi overhead and a g...
