Thanks for all the answers everyone. Yeah, I'll definately spend some time just moving around all my mics and see what happens. Just seeing if anyone had any cool tricks. I like bryans idea of running it through a guitar amp. I think I'll try that, maybe with a little overdrive on it, or maybe even ...

Recording Banjo

I'm about to start recording a lot of banjo, and was wondering if y'all had some advice. I have: a 57, 2 AKG C1000's, a VTB-1 pre, and an RNC I recorded one once a few years ago with a single 57, and I did it the other day with the 2 AKG's in an XY setup, pretty close to the banjo. Both times I just...

Damn, thanks for the reply Jeremy. The end part about multi pattern mics got me thinking, and now I'm really confused. I just bought my first multi pattern mic(omni, cardiod, & figure 8 ). So I'm confused as to how that works. If it were two back to back cardiod diaphragms the omni & the figure 8 wo...

Thanks for the responses guys. I've also been using Masterlinks for a long time and never had any problems, till now. I think we're just gonna get a new hard drive. I'm gonna call Alesis on Monday though and see what they suggest. A board member here said his dowloaded OS didn't work, but he had Ale...

Masterlink Problems

When I turn on the Masterlink 9600 at work is says "OS not found, Load OS?" If I try and load the OS it says "Initializing OS", then eventually "Formatting OS", and that stays on the screen. I let it format for almost two days, and nothing happens till I power it down and try again. I downloaded the...

Thanks mjau! Yeah, the bass player's a badass, 90% of the bass was done in one take, just punched a few spots here and there. As far as posting it somewhere else, I would love too. Is there any free places? The bass player has a website, I can probably get him to post a song or two on there, but wou...

My first post of my recordings. Please critique

Well, I've been wanting to post something I've recorded on here for a long time now, but don't have any kind of server to post it on, so I'm resorting to myspace(which I didn't want to do). Anyway, here it is: www.myspace.com/battleflask Any comments/critiques/whatever appreciated. It was done in a ...

I'd definately go for it. You're probably not gonna get anything too cool off craigslist. But I'd recomend if you're gonna call, you should fax a resume over first, or even better, take one there in person. I went through this in LA, and after not having much luck on the phone, I started going in pe...

I guess a lot of people have a hard time doing it, but I save my change and spend it on the mundane stuff. A couple times a year I cash it in and usually have around $75-100. So far I've bought 2 decent mic stands, a windscreen, a 57, and an MXR Bluebox all with change. I've got another coffee tin a...

I've used them on numberous sessions with no serious problems. Like xonlocust mentioned, the cables can easily come loose, but you can always throw some gaff tape on there to keep em in place. I'm actually planning on getting myself a pair sometime in the near future. I've looked around a lot, and t...

Yeah SMC, thats exactly what I'm talking about. I'm not sure if thats what Ian was talking about, cause of the 50 pin comment. You connect them with RJ45 Cable(ethernet), which is really cheap, and easy to make your own(making it extremely cheap, though you need a special crimper). I've used this sy...

Thanks for the input. The Big Knob looks like something I would really love to have(especially since it has a phono input. Thats badass), and might get someday, but for now I'm looking to do this as cheaply as possible. I'm looking for something more like JASIII has, with a mic with an on/off switch...
