I wrapped all the ends up in a big wad of bubble wrap and managed to pull the thing through quite successfully. A huge improvement. Thanks for the help.

Logic 9?

I'm currently running Logic 8, and I'm interested in upgrading to Logic 9 instead of Logic X. Partly because of the operating system, partly because I like my plugins.

I have two questions.

1) Am I crazy?

2) Where can I get a copy? Is Ebay my best option?

Monoprice DAC?

I notice that Monoprice (whose headphones have been raved about in the mag) is now producing a cheap DAC. Has anyone listened to it? Wondering particularly about older consumer grade equipment from like '91, and whether the advances in technology that we've seen since then would be significant enoug...

(i should clarify, loudness wars on the radio are very real...stations in competitive urban markets apply heavier compression and limiting than stations in less competitive markets because everyone wants to be the loudest station on the dial. But that's done on the station's end; it shouldn't impact...

I think they've been using heavy compression/limiting as part of the standard signal chain in radio since the 50s-60s at least. Orban collapsed it all into one unit sometime in the 70s.

My understanding is that loudness wars got started with jukeboxes. The radio explanation doesn't make sense because--though what you say about soft signal and dropouts is true, every radio station employs a chain of limiting, multiband compression, 15 khz lo-pass, etc before the signal heads to the ...

I certainly agree that loudness wars are undeniably a massive factor in crappy audio! My guess is that the popularization of Pono (and the development of a demonstrated consumer base that's really interested/invested in good audio) would probably encourage better practices on this front. I think par...

Additionally, if I've got room in the duct is it okay for me to just put the xlrs in a zip lock to protect against dust?

Pulling snake through a utility duct - ideas?

Largely because the help of many fine folks from this board, our basement recording space is coming along quite nicely. The next project I am thinking through involves the snake that runs from the live room to our control room. Turns out the drywall framing around the HVAC ductwork along the ceiling...

Because I wasn't happy with low end that cut off around 60hz, I upgraded my monitors this week to some Mackie HR824s, with a passive radiator. And: Oh no. I can tell that the high end is already more detailed and mids are spacious, but....the room response issues are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT than what I...

Alas the 2" panels are long gone. But thanks for that advice, it confirms what i found from experimenting with different setups, which is always a good feeling. We're using those nooks for shelving now.

I found a good deal on some Primacoustic panels for the live room. But they're only 2" deep. Should I save up and get some 4" panels, or will the 2" treatments be helpful?

Thank you for the video! I will generate some waterfall graphs and see if it reveals more of the improvement. I certainly can hear a marked difference. I added a 4" trap to each of the rear corners, and swapped the 4" traps on the front wall with 6" traps. Comb filtering seems to have vanished. I wo...

Update: Here's what we did so far. http://i1255.photobucket.com/albums/hh638/charmingtedious/controlroom.jpg Those red panels are 6". I have 2"panels at the first reflections. Haven't installed anything on the ceiling yet, but I have some 1" or 2" big sheets ready to go up. The room is 7'6" tall and...
