I imagine you may have tried this already, but sometimes (with my Mbox, not usually my 002r) if I get the "can't find digidesign hardware" error message I just unplug the usb cable from my computer and plug it right back in. I realize this may not be a good idea but it always works for me.

you're right, I'm sure, luckily I don't have any cracked plug-ins... I've been tesing with that Rember software and at first the computer would crash during testing at the exact same spot early on in the log. Then I switched out some ram and now it crashes much later on in the log. I still have two ...

trumpetgunk, thanks for the tips...I'll give that program a try as soon as I can. Possible bad memory was seconded by my computer store friend. Hope that's all it is.

sorry, let's see...

OSX 10.3.something, LaCie D2 160gig and Maxtor something 80gig (and one other but generally those two, all firewire), not sure about the memory, it's usually passed down to me by a friend for free, I'll see if I can find out.

Pro Tools Mac weird crashing

I posted this once before, but maybe not in the best thread, so I'll try again... i've been having a bit of trouble with a mac G4 (AGP) that I upgraded to 1.2ghz (1 gig ram). It seems to do fine most of the time, even with heavy tracking (up to 16 at a time) but occasionally when I start doing some ...

Gain plug-in/processing...downside?

Just wondering if anyone knew of any drawbacks to using a gain plug-in, or more specifically, processing a track that was recorded with too low a level with the gain feature in the Audio Suite of PT LE (6.9.2, 002r, Mac). Not to do anything drastic but really just to bring a track up to a much more ...

oh yeah, I guess that's a pain in the neck if you're talking about a bunch of different tracks, nevermind.

how about a work around...duplicate the track, flip the phase of the duplicated one then alternately mute/solo those two tracks in the mix to see what sounds better.

if this is who I think it is, how's mixing going? If not, how's mixing going?

just watched the documentary of the making of "Born to Run" today, I think it's called Wheels to Wings or something like that. Pretty interesting. You get to hear some unused tracks, different takes, watch Bruce micro-manage a lot of the performances (not that I particularly have an opinion about th...

The article says, at one point... "By the way, if you try this with a digital compressor you will get a lesson in the delay involved in digital processing. You will get comb filtering and it will sound dreadful." Hmmm...what do y'all think? Maybe I'm missing something, I haven't been using this tech...

I guess I should have said specifically on the snare (after re-reading your detailed explanation of the other mics).
