Re: I feel like such an elitist inside, but...

... i think some behringer gear sounds "fine" compared to your average stuff out there, but the problem is that there's a very good chance that his gear will break down in time. i feel bad for the guy, although he should have done his homework before putting $9000 in the hands of GC. my experience w...

Re: pad the cymbals?

"thingwiththestuff" is right, taping a cymbal will only make it sound like a pot lid, and make a crappy cymbal sound crappier. the exception that was already stated is a little tape on the underside of a overbearing ride might help if there is no other way... but tape on crash cymbals will only make...

Re: Where should I head next?

yep, he was in silver scooter in his austin days. now he lives in portland, or. really good songwriter and a really good engineer. he used to work with dave mcnair out in tx. dave is also the guy who recommended the 388 to my friend michael down in san francisco. scott (super xx man) makes that 388 ...

Re: Where should I head next?

yeah, i agree. if you like the portastudio setup, the 388 rules. pre's and mixer are pretty good on it... much better than any 8 track casettte deck, and the fidelity is better as well. if i had more room (they are pretty big) i'd get one. two of my friends have them and the stuff they've recorded s...

Re: holy fuck...i just figured out a one-handed drum roll.

... sure, as long as no one grabs my ass. truth be known, when i was a youngster on the drums i studied with henry adler in nyc, and he was big on the moeller technique and i did work on a one handed roll of sorts for my left hand. the best way i can explain it is a series of doubles played ...

Re: holy fuck...i just figured out a one-handed drum roll.

i guess i was out of line... especially because it seems your intention for using this kind of technique is for good rather than "evil", if ya know what i mean. i probably should have stated it less sarcastically, and didn't mean it as harshly as it appears to have come out. i was generalizing, and ...

Re: holy fuck...i just figured out a one-handed drum roll.

great... that's all we need... a fleet of drummers who can do one handed rolls ;) (sorry i couldn't resist) but seriously, drummers are better off spending their time learning the real value of a quarter note and how to play musically than spending their time on stuff to show off. i know, i know, it...

Re: Non-profit project label idea...

... wow, that is truly a non profit label... free downloads, with sooo many bands... very cool. i guess by non profit (as it pertains to me) i meant that i don't make any money off of the artists that i help promote... but they make money on their sales and so do i on mine. i hope my dropping in on ...

Re: Non-profit project label idea...

... i basically have a label as an umbrella for my projects and am about to take on a few other artists to promote them through my site for no profit. it won't really take much of my time to have a page for them with links to purchase their music, and the sum of our individual efforts will probably ...

Re: How many crappy albums have you bought?

Er...I'm totally indifferent to Elliot Smith. His untimely death doesn't change that. Anymore than I started liking Nirvana after Kurt did himself, or the Plasmatics after Wendy O blew her brains out on her front lawn (a performance artist to the very end)- you get the idea. Martyr status aside, hi...

Re: How many crappy albums have you bought?

Not to be chop-busting either, but where is the line between "not my cup of tea" and "this is crappy?" Can we trust ourselves to be that objective about something that is really very subjective? albums I think are great are: OK Computer - Radiohead Soft Bulletin - Flaming Lips Cruel Inventions - Sa...

Re: How many crappy albums have you bought?

dwlb, I won't beat you up for not liking either/or. (But come on!!! Oh, sorry...) Eh, it don't bother me none. This is a thread about--basically--"what records did you buy and not like," which you'd think would naturally ruffle some feathers, but no one got bashed for any of it until I mentioned El...
