Re: Good Mastering in Portland,OR???
... Jeff Saltzman is excellent. Great ears, works really hard to make your mixes sound their best, and he seems to have a nice balance on punching up the mixes without squashing stuff too much. He works out of Superdigital on NW 17th and Northrup. Highly recommended. Tony Lash works out of there as ...

Re: Live acoustic guitar mic. Suggestions?
AKG C 535 EB... great live acoustic guitar mic. I've played a few theaters that use them exclusively for this purpose, and they sound fantastic on vocals as well. I'm saving up for one (or 2) myself.

Re: best mic pre under $200
... i've tried all three that you mentioned, and i like the vtb-1. the other two are pretty clean sounding... kinda like a poor man's grace 101(i believe they use the same chip), but the studio projects pre had a bit of "sponginess"(for lack of a better description), that made t sound more musical, ...

... john pearse bronze lights sound best to my ear, for what it's worth... but i agree that it depends on the guitar, and the gauge and type that works best for that guitar... trial and error, baby.

... couldn't agree more. i got mine used (barely) for $150 with the tweed case. allparts makes a retrofit individual saddle intonateable bridge for about $25, in case you have trouble with the rosewood slab keeping you in tune.salad49 wrote:Definately Danelectro - the U2 reissues can't be beat.

am nearing completion on the second record by a prolific GBV-styled songwriter who goes by the moniker "king of prussia." his first album got some small but positive national coverage. this guy is brilliant, really. yeah, that guy is great! i played in pittsburgh with him (@quiet storm) last year o...

... i'm with ya. he's a bad ass. a rare breed of guitar player who has the facility to play anything, but always seems to play the RIGHT thing. i had the pleasure of opening up for buddy and julie at the aladdin in portland, or. kelly willis actually headlined the show, but buddy and julie stole it ...

Re: Your favorite producer and favorite engineer
I got to work with producer Geoff Workman (the Cars, Queen) a long time ago. For the time, and for the classic sounds we were going for, he was awesome. As for engineers, I recently had the pleasure of doing a record with Larry Crane, and it was the easiest tracking I have ever done. The man simply ...

as subjective as musical taste can be, here's my 2 cents. bands like TOTO are generally made up of very technically proficent session players who write and record slick gutless drivel. whatever floats yer boat. i'd rather listen to scratchy old leadbelly recordings, or neutral milk hotel recorded on...
