Circuit Boards: "What Compressor" and 1176
I bought these board to build but never used them. Both still in the same packaging they came in. Make me a reasonable offer.

FS/FT: Rode NT1a
Works perfectly and in very good cosmetic condition except that I screwed on the wrong mic clip thing and can't get it off! Oops. I've been using it with a shockmount, however, so it didn't really matter. You can use it with the mic clip it has, but it's a iittle loose. Comes with padded carry case....

Re: gates - useful or a hinderance?
So I guess the short answer is that they are a great concept though the actual function of the automatic boxes are usually not as accurate as may be necessary. Now with the sine wave generator trick, you're just allowing a short burst of that tone to blend in with the kick drum for added goodness? ...

Re: MIDI verb I any good?
those old alesis boxes are noisy. But hey - if the price is right I am sure you will find a use for it. I'm trying to avoid buying shit that's just going to be hanging around, taking up space. I used to have a ton of "maybe one day this will be JUST the thing I need" type stuff but I never used mos...

Re: gates - useful or a hinderance?
I usually gate toms. And snares, unless there's a bunch of ghost notes. And sometimes kick if the mic in front of the kick is getting a bunch of crappy cymbal wash from a sloppy drummer. I never gate a vocal track...I go through and cut dead space and fade by hand. Sometimes I use a gate to open a s...

MIDI verb I any good?
Someone's offering me a sweet deal on a MIDI verb I. I've heard some good things about the MIDI verb II and 4, but nothing about these.

Re: The 20 Year Rule
While I don't adhere to something as strict as a "20 year rule," I do try to invest in gear that I think will last me a while. I've pretty much decided to stop investing in digital stuff as it just gets out of date so quick that I can't keep up...then there's all the updates, learning the new softwa...

Re: PT outboard latency
right, DA -> outboard -> AD is equal to DA -> AD for practical purposes. this is because the signal is analog (electrical) and therefore approaches the speed of light, there is some delay but it's on the order of micro seconds or less. My figures could be wrong here, but basically nothing to bother...

Re: Hi-quality problem regarding snare
I never found much use for a bottom mic and have NEVER kept one in a song. I may revisit this in the future, but for now I'm happy to get the snare in the top mic and overheads.

Re: PT outboard latency
OK, to clarify: I'm going to bus my drum mix to two stereo aux tracks (but not send the individual drum track to the main output - so basically the drums are only coming through the two auxes), one that will be kept unprocessed, and one that I will compress. When I do this in the box I have to put t...
