Burger Records does a pretty swift business in cassettes these days.. they're cheap to manufacture and fit in your pocket! I feel like the 'return of vinyl' has been oversold quite a bit.. so expensive to produce, and do folks actually listen to them all that much? It seems like a vanity thing almos...

You might find a cheap stereo electret condenser.. I have a Technics stereo mic that uses a single AA battery, has dual 1/4" output, and sounds halfway decent. And if I drop it into a waterfall, I won't shed any tears. The onboard preamps will do the job just fine. I was told by a service guy that t...

We used TWO mics on the drums, a tube condenser floating over the kick and a Heil mic inside the kick.. both bussed to one track. The kick is way too loud but nothing can be done about that now!! I'm happy to commit to 8 tracks while recording, but I do like the flexibility of mixing in the computer...

Mikey, did you mix these on the 488? Or do the laborious export process? Curious about your tracking setup as well...

"2. write the review FOR the reviewer, they'll prefer to just paraphrase your one-sheet instead of actually LISTEN to the material...." This is unfortunately too true. Paraphrased press-releases are very common, so write a really good one sheet and they'll probably just lift the verbiage, "Imagine E...

STATION TO STATION

I think this album sounds amazing - while Bowie says it's his least 'sincere' record (aren't they all?), it's got the most emotional signing he's ever done, especially "Word on a Wing" and "Wild is the Wind." Maybe his finest vocal moments. Can anyone familiar with it speculate how they did that fla...

"Percussion" is a little vague - a tambourine, conga, guiro, maracas, glockenspiel would all be different. That said, a small diaphragm condensor is pretty good for all those things.

Husker Du was the loudest show I've ever seen in my life. He boasted that they could crank out 130db at the board. I'm sure his ears are gone, gone.

If 'pocket' means anything to me, it is a tight relationship between bass & kick drum, i.e. Levon & Danko, Dunn & Jackson, etc.

Wow, the nyckelharpa is a lovely instrument - I have a cd by a swedish band called Vassen that use it extensively and it sounds awesome.

Scroll down to the "Keytar" keyboard sitar - I've never seen one in person but the audio sample is interesting:
