The VW is a favorite of mine. I use very few plug-ins, but I return to this one very often. It's tempting to overdo it, but used judiciously it can really add some character to many digital tracks.

Meters, whether digital or VU or whatever must always be learned.

In both PT and DP I have figured out what I can get away with, and of course one of those things is how much room I can leave compared with tape. There is no reason to hit PT hard. You gain nothing.

Re: Recording For A Living - Your Frist Year Compared To Tod

Are you making enough money to support yourself? Yes, but I have a second job. Fortunately, that job is being a bass player, and whether the ratio of work coming in is recording or playing matters less to me than the fact that I don't have to do non-music work to survive. When I started recording p...

This thread is making me sit up and notice how long it's been since I used my 421. It's been ages, even though I know it's a great microphone. I think about 80% of the reason is the damn clip! Like everyone on earth, mine is all messed up. Maybe I'll just break down and blow the $30 and start throwi...

I'm surprised no one has mentioned low brass. The RE-20 is my favorite trombone mic. Sometimes I record a player who doesn't sound right with one, but most sound fabulous through this mic. Recently I tracked a band that had french horn instead of bone and I though "well, why not?" and put up the RE-...

Thanks! I'm using an 828mkII and it makes sense that this is the part of the chain that's screwed... I'll check this out.

I have had the same problem lately though maybe not quite as bad as yours, but it's driving me nuts. For me it varies from a little gap once in a song, to every 30 seconds or so. Incredibly frustrating. I can be rolling along fine recording like 7 or 8 tracks of 44.1/24 and then suddenly there'll be...

There's a sign next to the door of the building that says in big letters "STATS."

It was easier than thinking up something.

audio gaps

Never had this problem until very recently: Recording 8 tracks via Mac Power Book/Digital Peformer--> MOTU 828mkII --> Lacie FW drive. 44.1/24bit Frequent stutters in the audio, tiny gaps. When it happened before I went and bought a new HD. Problem was "solved" for two projects, but has now returned...

I don't know what you're running the EL-7 into but you're obviously doing something wrong. The FATSO has gain and output to spare.

My goal is to ensure that I'll still have a studio after my lease is up in August.

Other than that, gotta get these patchbays wired up...
