I hope you don't mind me asking about these, it's based solely in lack of knowledge on my part, but what are we looking at here? I have seen other PM1000 channel strips racked and it's pretty easy to see the EQ and other parts of the channel strip. Is this something else?

That's great to hear. Vince is definitely in that special place where audio maniacs exist- you should talk to him about this stuff in person, he gets all worked up. it's great, though, he gets me excited about the possibilities of relatively cheap gear. I have a PRO VLA 2 that I've never had much lu...

Jon,

That sound great! Love that place and it's been too long since I've heard you.

I've been taking some lessons with Mark Baxter and he's really helping me work through my weak spots and get more by working less (if that makes any sense).

Just spoke to Kelley Stoltz in Boston a few weeks ago and we were totally geeking out, showing each other photos of the new 1" 8 tracks we both have purchased, which are both being tweaked by techs as we speak. I just got a MCI JH-110 and he bought what has to be one of the first Ampex 1" 8 tracks n...

Hooray for the Q Division artiicle!

I can't tell you how happy I am to see Tapeop's spotlight shining on Q Division. So much great music has come out of that studio over the years and Mike and Jon are two of the best guys you could ever meet. Boston rock wouldn't be the same without them.

My whole last album was done on an MX5050 and I just started laying down tracks for the next one on the same machine. You will have absolutely no problem finding tape (as you probably already know) and the 5050 is a great sounding machine with a minimum of maintenance issues. $400 with remote is a g...

If you haven't already read it, Al's book "Backstage Passes And Backstabbing Bastards" is one of the best rock books ever written. the man is truly the Zelig of rock. It's incredible how many key moments in rock history happened aroud him and he was mostly straight for it all , so he remembers the d...

1" 8 track in Nashville?

Anybody know a cool place in Nashville to record acoustic guitar and drums live? Singer/songwriter stuff. My favorite drummer lives down there and I'm in Boston and that's just such an inconvenience. Just need a cool sounding room, some nice mics and pres and an engineer who likes the Beatles, no bi...

I think also that Paul used a pick & palm muted a lot. ding, ding, ding, we have a winner. I have spent an inordinately large percentage of my life thinking about Paul McCartney's bass playing and, to me, it comes down to muting, flatwounds,, tube amp. I don't own a Ric bass (want one), but my 60's...

Well, I quite like that sort of thing, so no worries. Here's something I've always wondered about and I put this out there just to see what you all think. I LOVE 1" 8 track, think it's a perfect format, but those machines are super hard to find compared to other analog configurations. I generally th...
