Re: Digitech VTP-1, any one use one?
Yes, now that I think of it the unit seems to fail in a not so musical way when there is some serious pressure input. I am still trying to discover the best setting relationship between the pre-gain and output knobs. I'm trying to maximize warmth without clipping or a 'knee" sound.

Re: Digitech VTP-1, any one use one?
Yes, I ust the VTP-1 . They work fine, though I haven't yet mastered pushing the tubes without adding a symbalance cchhtt. the eq seems effective if not less than graceful - could be my touch. I don't know what to do with the phase switches yet. I bought min used for $150 - the meters don't always w...

Re: phase reverse / esrever esahp
I have used the phase reverse swithces on my Digitech VTP-1, but only for experimental purposes. I am trying to figure out when to use the switches on recordings - do i purposely switch the phase on stereo overheads, or use a phase reversal to send something way back in the mix?

Re: phase reverse / esrever esahp
Hello, my mic pre's have phase reversal buttons - do I want to use them so that a stereo pair is OUT of phase - ? like recording 2 fiddles , or stereo drums?
Thanks for the help.

Mix to tape
Tape heads, I've got 2 projects mixed to PT and here is where I am: I am mastering it myself ( spare me the spanking) and each step I find I want to "smiley face" the eq - so either I'm being conservative, or that's the sound that is giving me depth through bouncing iterations. Interestingly, I now ...

I'm doing rookie above ground recordings, ProTools LE in SE Portland. I'm sure we could soften the learning curve for both over a beer. aschoff@mmode.com

Processor CPU power/ buffer settings
I am using a Powerbook G4, 002 rack and a Lacie FWhard drive. I am running the sessions (as in saving and retrieving) off of the LaCie. Getting CPU usage problems with plug ins, and sometimes just in bounces. what should I change?? Also, Amplitude is unable to help me get my plug ins going even with...

Amplitube et al
Running about 15-20 tracks through my Digi 002 on PT LE, and when I use the Amplitube plug-in on more than one track, things get sticky. I've increased the CPU power to 99% but that doesn't seem as good as 85% , MUST be system stuff. Any popular techniques to get around the errors - besides knocking...

Re: recording accordion
Yes further away with one condenser mic sounds like the ticket, though I think the zydeco guys playing the cajun button accordion must be using the mic inside the accordion also, for that tight one note sound. thanks.

Re: recording accordion
I've been recording a cajun button accordion for a demo of my band, and a couple of problems. I had a 57, an EV 767 and the DI on it, but it was shrill and not pure in tone ( like Boozoo, steve riley et al) . also , if I get the bass side in , it sounds wickedly like over compressed pumping and brea...

Re: best firewire drive?
I have a newer LaCie 160gb FW 800 drive. It is not completely silent, just gurgles now and then, only gets a little warm. On the expensive side of storage though.

External FW drives: Storage and Backup Media
Ok, after all the stories of lost data etc, I went and bought an external fW drive, but, I believe mistakenly, moved my Pro Tools App to the drive, and now work from the external. Are there problems with this (Digi 002 is FW 400, LaCie drive FW 800 - both into powerbook)? Should I rearrange my set u...
