Daniel Johnston, Bill Callahan, IVY AND THE WICKER SUITCASE

Hi All I've almost finished recording a musical I've written called "Ivy and the Wicker Suitcase". It features Daniel Johnston, Bill Callahan, Will Sheff, and ME of course, among others. We're doing a Kickstarter in support of it, and I'm posting a link here so my tapeop buddies might spread it arou...

one mic

I have just got to say that I would NEVER EVER have used the technique you used for your one mic sound- frankly, it seems like it would be a recipe for DISASTER. but.... somehow.... it sounds great. Holy sheet! (I am listening through my crummy computer speakers, so I have no way to really analyze t...

eagle stuff

Hi all It makes me mighty happy y'all are enjoying this record. It was a pleasure to work on. Bill is the actual, true producer of this record. Bill is the one who put the band together, chose john as an engineer, and asked me to do the post tracking arrangements. I don't know so much about the basi...

Does anyone have a schematic, manual, or wiring diagram for a 666? Does anyone know of one online?
Thanks

that storage container looks fabulous. I think, as we've established here already, that chambers come in all shapes and sizes. If it sounds reverby, it IS a reverb chamber, dammit. also, alot of those "perfect sonic dimensions" rules kinda fly out the window when you're talking reverb chambers. Some...

I used one of those morely pedals. I thought it sounded coool as shit. More goopy and underwater sounding than any other reverb I ever heard, with a badass doppler effect out of tune/ echo cycle. I vote for Exceedingly Groovy.

I've GOT to feel friendly towards the folks I work with, or I won't work with them. I am not, however, an engineer or studio for hire. I pick who I work with as much as they pick me. Being "nice" or "mean" seem less important in my situation than being honest. If you can manage to be critical while ...

4033 is great, I love 57's on bass amps as well, especially if you want a "guitary" tone. Ribbons rule on bass amps as well, especially when it's a smalish amp. Sounds like you were almost there with the epiphone. Try all your smallish amps again, at smallish volumes, (if it sounds fatter...). Those...

I like ribbons on pump organs as well, but there have been just as many times I've used condensors or dynamics. It depends on the context of the instrument in the song. If it's a solo pump organ, or if the pump organ is a major part of the harmonic heft of the song, a big warm ribbon, OR one or two ...

the incredible SPACE PHONE

There is a toy called "the space phone" which is two plastic megaphone thingys with a slender longy metal slinky stretched between them. when you speak into one, your voice rolls out both sides with a natural slinky spring reverb, with definite regenerating echo patterns as well. Here's the "toy ray...

I'm sure borrowing something from GC would work in a pinch, but I agree with djembe that borrowing or renting from a friend or associate would be a bit more practical. ( you could possibly steal some of their expertise as well....) If you're new to this, the time spent experimenting with mic placeme...

My understanding is that the paper facing gives you a bit more high mid reflections when facing out (NOT necessarily a bad thing...), but it has virtually no effect on low mid and bass absorption. The method of mounting the 703 had more to do with what it absorbs and how. I've never heard of anyone ...
