Overhead Miking Techniques w/Pictures
I'm finally doing drums for the first time and I've been reading up on different methods of overhead miking such as Glyn Johns, Recorderman, etc. and I wondered if anyone knows of any pictures of such a setup (especially Recorderman). In reading, I think I'm understanding, but a picture is worth 100...

Re: My friend is recording my band's album. Need gear advice
I hope you're planning on miking the kick and snare. What mics do you have for that? How about an LDC or pair to use for vocals and a bit everything else?

Well, it went ok. Sounds fairly good to me, but then again I'm brand new at this.

Re: tele neck in a strat body
From what I understand it's much easier to put a Strat neck in a tele body....I haven't seen many guitars the other way around.

Recording a jazz combo. Need mic/pre advice.
My friend is in a jazz combo for school and asked if I would record a quick demo of the group they could use to get gigs around town. I've only had my home studio going for a couple months and I am personally doing indie rock for myself, so I was hoping I could get some tips on miking for jazz. We n...

Re: best Rhodes option?
I came across a Yamaha CP-20 a couple years back and while it's an electronic piano rather than electric, it has great action and does quite a good Rhodes impersonation....in fact, I prefer it's sound to a Rhodes. It's 61 key, about 70 lbs, and thinner than a Rhodes. I now gig with it instead of my ...

Re: best Rhodes option?
The most convincing digital Rhodes I've heard was on a Yamaha Motif ES, which will run you waaaaay more than an actual Rhodes (of course you get other sounds, too), but it wasn't an 88 key model, so it had synth action, which kind of ruined it for me. You can get Rhodes pianos in very good condition...

Re: suggest a snare drum for me please
Worldmax Black Dawgs are my favorite metal snares. I even prefer mine to a real Ludwig Black Beauty a friend has! Also, Supras and Acrolites are so cheap these days, you really can't go wrong. I got a nice blue/olive Supra at a Music Go Round for $40 a couple years back. $50 for new heads and wires ...

I love my OSAs and Nathan at Atlas Pro Audio is really great. I got two "C"s and I will be getting an "L" and an "L3" after Christmas.
I got a steal on my lunchbox so I'm averaging about $550 per pre. Beat that!

Redo the mix???
Here's the deal: Below are mp3s of an album I did on my own for a local label (my first foray into recording/engineering, no less). They were more of a joke than a label, so we quit the whole thing only 2 months after the release. Since they owned the equipment and the space, they retain ownership o...

Re: good cheap drums - advice?
I second the 70s kits (I prefer Rogers). I'll also throw Taye into the mix if you want something new. My parents just commissioned me to find a cheap set for my kid brother, and I ended up getting him a 4 piece set with all hardware for only $400. After new heads, the kit sounded phenomenal and the ...
