Can output level on tape machines be adjusted?
I have been recording to a Tascam TSR-8 reel to reel tape machine for many years and my machine finally quit on the tail end of a 9 month project. The playback seems to have failed, was told it's most likely the capstan motor that stopped working properly. I purchased another TSR-8 in an attempt to ...

Advice on buying a stereo hand held recorder.
The singer for a band I am in wants to be able to record our rehearsals himself. I suggested one of those hand held reorders by tascam, alesis, or zoom. I really know nothing about them, any tips, experience and/or advise would be appreciated. Can they all download to a computer fairly easily? Are y...

Right, nice suggestions. I have to admit the thought came from an interview with the engineer who did the Nevermind album from one of those VH1 remastered series. He said "Lennon used this method due to him not liking the sound of his own voice" so he suggested it to Kurt Cobain. So I figured I have...

Double tracking lead vocals. Where to pan, L R or center?
I have never double tracked lead vocals and would like to experiment. Where have you panned them with success? Both center or slightly left and right?
I will try all options just qurious as to what works for people.

Fender Rodondo Acoustic
Anybody have one? Anyone ever play one? Going to check one out tomorrow. It's the one with the strat style headstock. Not much info out there on them. I saw Chrissy Hynde play one around election time at a DEVO/democratic rally. http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg158/kilsin/Redondo.jpg http://i247...

In the 60's & early 70's singers would sing into 2 mics. They would be taped together. Was this for recording puposes or monitor purposes. Or something completely different?

Yes, I will try stereo. Have been scared to go with stereo, yes scared to go that route. Having control over just snare alone has always beeen important to me. Parallel compression seems to happen on all the rock related music I do. With having the snare and O/h's on the same track that would give m...

Can someone recommend a 2 or 4 ch. gate for toms?
Is it common to put a gate on toms? Thinking it could be helpful for a rock drummer with a light hand on the toms. He hits the kick, snare, and cymbals well. When it comes time for the toms he just does not hit them hard enough. BTW I use the sennheiser 604's into a mackie pre then to a TSR-8. My lo...
