I know they have nothing at all to do with mastering, but they're hanging in here and I can't help but smile a bit every time I walk in. Therefore, they're making an impact on my day. Had a couple "guest artist" things going on and found these brand-spankin' new (Classic Customs) through a collector...

Anecdotally -- Used to set up the U87-SM7b all the time for the R/HH'ers (well, for most everybody for that matter). They'd always want the U87, I'd always tell them to give it a chance. So I'd have them set up tight together, record both, have them come into the control room and let *them* choose w...

I know I know, if you have to ask you can't afford them, but I still am curious... How much are those bad boys? The "factory direct" price is just under $10k. He regularly sells them at Audiogon for around $7800. A bargain at twice that price from what I'm hearing so far... If I walked into a shop ...

wow lookit those crazy things! did you sell the b+w's? They're going on the block shortly. At rock-frickin' bottom so I can move 'em quickly. Those are wacky looking. Can someone explain the basic concept? Why so many speakers, and why positioned in such a manner. It's almost freaky how some room i...

Let me even add just a line or two for the sake of the search function... Going along with the "I actually want you to play your production master disc" thing, one thing I forgot was to suggest a *tray* fed player - as opposed to a slot-loader. Nothing touches the surface on a tray-fed player. The d...

Obviously I've never gotten anything mastered before. It weirds me out that you get a disc, that you can't play, that is "ruined" after you play it once, that you send to the disc duplicator to be made into copies (and is "ruined" in the process?) and you don't have anything should you need more CD...

You can't make an ISO image of an audio CD. There are a couple of proprietary (and non-compliant) apps that will make an "image" that, of course, can only be read by that program... The only way to package up a CD-A is via Disc Description Protocol (DDP) which is (A) pricey (B) "old" - although stil...
