Joe Meek Twin Q
Thinking about getting a Joe Meek Twin Q in conjunction with my mackie 24/8. I always hear people saying about how when tracks stack up with the Mackie it gets a bit muddy and was wondering if i record some track through this if it would help the problem. I only have the Mackie at the mo for trackin...

Re: My old recordings sounds better using crappy stuff
How much can you get a decent tape machine for? Also im not too sure about this wordclock stuff. I have the motu and an alesis ai3 for more in/outs. Do i need an external wordclock and how would this change the sound?

Re: My old recordings sounds better using crappy stuff
Yeah the 'easy mix' thing sounds about right to me and the recordings do have a type of 2d feel to them. I dont even know what the mics were that i used before, they were basically whatever i could get hold of. I do remember one oof them being about 2 inches long though. They were just totally rando...

Re: My old recordings sounds better using crappy stuff
The only things that i could think of were the same reasons as what you guys said. That being that the room was different (old ones done in house environment, deader and the new ones in a room with stone walls, more lively) and that because the equipment is better it translates the sounds more accur...

My old recordings sounds better using crappy stuff
Hi Just had a listen to some old recordings of mine last night done on a roland 8 track (vs 840ex) and with some really shitty mics, one of which was ?1 from a car boot sale. After comparing them with newer ones that ive done on my mac (logic, motu 828mk2, better mics) the old ones sound 'more toget...

Re: Upgrade from Mackie 8Bus preamps?
The thing is i could either buy one api pre amp or a tl audio 5013 eq. Which does anyone think would improve the sound of a recording more? (considering i'll be using the mackie eq's if i bought the api) Oh and i tried recording using the direct outs rather than the buss ones and it didnt seem to ma...

Re: Upgrade from Mackie 8Bus preamps?
Wow! thanks for the replies.
I'll try out the stuff suggested and see if it helps. As far as new preamps go then maybe i'll just save for an api.

Re: Upgrade from Mackie 8Bus preamps?
Huh?
Do you mean use the direct outs instead of the 8 busses? I didn't really understand your post.

Upgrade from Mackie 8Bus preamps?
Hi Just wondering if anyone knew what preamps would be an improvement to the ones in a mackie 8bus? For example would the pres in focusrite platinum, TL audio ivory range stuff be better? Just dont wanna waste any money on something that wont improve things much. Ive looked at the seventh circle kit...
