Re: Isolation with a drop ceiling: fantasy or reality
OK guys, that was super fun, but can I have my thread back? I am kidding of course - Dante's question was a logical extension of my own and gave me some ideas. I wish I had a professional close by to walk through this with, but there's nobody I know of. This might sound REALLY dumb, but is there suc...

Isolation with a drop ceiling: fantasy or reality
Hey everyone - thanks in advance for taking interest. I'm having a contractor finish half of my basement in an older home (1940ish with a later addition) to become my recording studio. I'm not a professional, and I mostly make music by myself or with a friend. I've never recorded in a situation any ...

Mostly I'm filling out extremely repetitive paperwork for my new job. It sucks! But, I'm hoping to carve out a few hours to work on vocals for the first song I've written in about 2 years. What will also be kinda fun is that a guy I "met" in an online class is going to record live drums for it (I of...

This got me thinking about my own recent issues with this. First, to vent a little: Are we all pissed off that Apple makes it prohibitively expensive and a huge hassle to license/sell anything that bypasses the D/A converter and accesses the digital stream via lightning cable? Quality D/A or shitty ...

Cool track. I don't love the vocal style, but that is probably just personal preference. The instrumentation is interesting, pretty tightly performed, and nicely recorded. The one thing that felt most "off" to me was that the guitars have a really nice sense of space while the bass, kick, and snare ...

Where are you located? If you have a good pro audio shop around, there is no substitute for going and listening, especially if the shop has someone knowledgeable (ie not Guitar Center - although if they're all you've got, it's still valuable to listen to the monitors, if you can ignore the employees...

Take my response with a grain of salt, because I've never had access to the huge number of high-end/vintage/boutique amps that a lot of the pros here have. That said, a friend of mine had a Hot Rod Deville (4x10 - there's also a 2x12 version), and regardless of how I mic'd it, it always sounded grea...

"I enjoy vinyl even when it comes from digital masters. There's something to be said for the experience of putting a platter on a turntable. There is a psychological effect that it has. Mixing/recording efficiency in DAW
Hey all. I'm a hobbyist who records at home, and I recognize that this is sorta a vague/general topic, but I'm hoping it may generate ideas or discussion from people with a lot more experience. I write my own stuff, and record and mix pretty much all in the box, with exception of a few outboard rack...

As soon as I saw the "put shit up your nose" comment, I was going to make a David Bowie* crack, but someone obviously beat me to it with the Fleetwood Mac version. *If you attempt this technique for Bowie-esque effect, it is best to have a vintage Brian Eno (I think available on Amazon?) on hand to ...

The Knife - Silent Shout : always had a very unique sound to me that still leaves me wondering how exactly they achieved it. Radiohead - Kid A : I think a lot of folks believe the acclaim for this album was overblown. It was not ground-breaking for what it did from an electronic music standpoint, no...
