What is your favorite piece of gear costing less than $600

Since many of us are on a budget, I thought I'd reiterate the other posting but with a price-tag limit! This includes items that you know to be relatively easily purchased used at less than $600. What's your favorite piece of studio gear -$600. My favorite items are: (1) ART PRO VLA Compressor - it ...

Recording a solid guitar amp - advisable?

I run a "budget" recording studio and many of my financially struggling clients have solid state guitar amps. No big deal - I still get paid and I do have a tube amp that they can use when they want. Here's the deal though. I've noticed that no matter how good these solid state amps seems to sound i...

Re: A Disturbing Trend in the Tape OP Reviews...

You know what I absolutely love about the reviews in TapeOp...and I HOPE THIS TREND CONTINUES... is that they review older gear that has not just been released. That's awesome! Re: Developing Your Ears

When I began getting into music years ago, I started by playing piano (traditional w/lessons) and was in school band. Re: Can Sampled Drums Ever Sound Real?

Has anyone ever heard the newest and best of the Roland V-Drums? Sure it's a "real" drumset but this is the most convincing thing I've ever heard, and I'm sure you could just MIDI-trigger the sound module rather than actually playing the drumset. (Can you buy just the module? - I don't know.) This t...

Audio Technica AT4040

This mic is reliable in all sorts of situations. I've tried it on acoustic guitar, electric guitar, male and female vocals, and mono drum overhead. It wasn't the best for electric guitar, but I found it to be nice on acoustic and good on both types of vocalists. On acoustic it was sort of "not in yo...

Re: does one really need a computer for making techno or nin

The answer is an absolute NO!!! NIN and techno music has been around long before computers were of any real use in this style of music. I still use entirely outboard gear. You still can't emulate or beat true analog gear as far as sound quality goes. Anyone who has an analog piece can attest to the ...
