You would think Shure would be more upset, since they're in the buisness of making fake SM57's too.... What do you mean by that? It's a joke, sort of, about Shure moving their plants to Mexico in the 90's to make higher profits first mics second. Everything good you've read about a SM57 was written...

The PR-40 is good, but nothing like the RE-20 - I bought the Heil to replace an EV I gave away but it seems to me to be just a better SM57.

i still have no idea yet, my teac is getting serviced.

I can't believe US Recording is completely dumping Quantegy, I didn't think it was that bad. And Like Joel says, they still need our support.

You guys are brave, I'm starting my first DIY.....a BYOC tremolo, thought I'd start small.
But I am switching all the resistors from carbon to metal and rewiring the LED to pulse.

I'll try the jfet after a couple more stompboxes.

The first time wasn't so smooth. I tried to remove the capsule from the top housing, big mistake. And I managed to break the spring clamp, fortunately two halves hold as good as one whole. A screen on one of the mics had such a buildup of nicotine it looked like someone burned an incense on top of it.
