What you say makes sense. Now that I think about it, I never attenuated with software controls, only analog. IE, mixer or output volume potentiometer on my 003, etc.

Cool thread, thanks for the info everyone.

Interesting subject. So far I leave my monitors up full and attenuate what I'm sending them. I have tested this against the other method, and decided that I was getting much better tone with the monitors up full. Interesting to see so many of you go against that. I'm sure I will do some more testing...

I had one briefly. Traded it back in at the store, mostly because my situation changed and I no longer needed it's functionality. I went for a mixer instead, which I'm very happy about. :D But I did like the Tubefire, it sounded good and had every feature in a mic pre that I would want. Except for A...

WTB: wood side panels for a TEAC A3440s 4 track.

I've had my deck for a long time, and the side panels were lost unfortunately somewhere along the way...

Anybody got one they are parting out?

Sorry, but this forum is no less potentially annoying or elitist than GS. Different, yes, but equally lame at any given moment. And also equally helpful at any given moment. There are those on this forum that would have us all believe that TOMB is so much more friendly, more organic, more encouragin...

whoops, I missed the "r" in your screen name...

uh, back to the regularly scheduled '70s themes.
...or you could drop the "r", call it the vesuvius x and become a legendary gear millionaire.

just sayin'

I hate to point out the obvious, but how about: The Vesuvius X I would buy that! :D I mean hell, it's named after both you AND the most famously deadly volcano in fucking history!!! That's just cool. Volcanoes are most definitely "warm". OK, I admit I have a particular fascination with Vesuvius and ...

I am using an ART Pro MPA for this, as was earlier suggested. It works really well.
I also have used Mackie preamps for this many times in the past. When you blow them out you get a fantastic smooth and silky fuzz, it works wonders creeped in behind the original vocal, or drums.

ELBOW

DOVES

RADIOHEAD

three of my very favorites for several years now.

also was an obsessive U2 fan for like... half my life. not so much anymore. BTW, duh I realize they are irish but to me they have always belonged squarely in the "british rock band" genre.

Yes, I was twisting it correctly. I think it's just lost some of it's "grip". Those are all sound reasons for having the cover on, I will investigate making it grip better and put them back on. Thanks everyone...
