Re: Mysterious increase in LF with this plug-in chain

I've tried running the RComp in both "Smooth" and "Warm" modes and have found that they both exhibit the same LF boost. The LF boost affect only occurs when the REQ2 HPF is in series before the RComp. If I deactiveate th REQ2, the LF boost is gone. I just don't understand why a compressor, configure...

Re: Mysterious increase in LF with this plug-in chain

It's an old version of Waves (9.2, I believe). Shamelessly running (and coping with) a legacy DAW over here, with fingers permanently crossed.

Mysterious increase in LF with this plug-in chain

I have a spoken word vocal track with a Waves Renaissance REQ2 set as a HPF at 141Hz which removes LF at a slope that is below 80dB by 30Hz)...this is confirmed by a Frequency Analyzer plugin. THEN....I add a Waves Renaissance Compressor with no make-up applied and I see a jump in LF at 60Hz and low...

Re: Recommend me a wild delay pedal

Big fan of Earthquaker Devices and Jamie's creations - the Afterneath can get you square into that cloudy dream space occupied by the likes of Eno or Harold Budd & John Foxx. The Disaster Transport Sr. is a dual delay that can get wild due to it's variable routing options. The separate delay channel...

Re: Rackmount gear, proximity & interference

So I've rearranged my rack. I swapped the Pultec for an 1176 and there is definitely a reduction in 60Hz however it still increases when the 1176 is powered on. I suppose that this most likely is just a complicated ground loop and/or EMI due to proximity sort of thing. I'll probably just put the GTQ...

Re: Rackmount gear, proximity & interference

Yeah, I was quite disappointed by the lack of response from Aurora Audio, especially after having encountered a technical issue with a brand new unit. I was really excited to purchase this GTQ2 and had decided after much research to make it the sole preamp in my small studio. I would really have lik...

Re: Rackmount gear, proximity & interference

I have the same issue with my GTQ-2. Channel 2 has a lot more of the hum than the other. Like 5-10db. Can’t remember to what extent I tried to troubleshoot this, but I seem to recall still having some hum (however less) with the unit completely out of the rack. I reached out to Geoff Tanner/Aurora ...

Rackmount gear, proximity & interference

Hi folks. I have a rackmount with an Aurora Audio GTQ2 preamp racked on top of a Pultect EQP1A (DIY Drip build). I have been using this chain in this racked congifuration for months to record voice overs. Today I noticed that increased 60hz noise was present in the audio signal and was eventually ab...

Podcast Directory - Pandemic Update

I'm curious to know which podcasts everybody has been diving into, particular during these times of isolation and change....audio engineering related or not. There always seems to be something fantastic out there that I have yet to encounter. TapeOp Working Class Audio Sodajerker On Songwriting Aqua...

Replacement rails for racks

Most of the threaded holes on my current rack rails are stripped out...can anybody recommend a particular brand of replacement rack rails that have seemingly more durable threads than others? Also, do any of you use any kind of rear support for your equipment that is hanging in your racks with front...

XLR input output & wire guage

This is a pesky splitting hairs kind of question, perhaps. I'm wiring input and output XLR jacks to the pcb of an eq clone I'm building. I used 18 guage wires because I like how the cable runs can be formed into position due to the wire thickness. Is there any reason why 18 guage would be a bad choi...

Analog electronics repair in Portland OR

Can anybody recommend a reputable service technician in the Portland Oregon area? I have a vintage tube preamplifier that I would like to have serviced and am new to the area.

Thanks!

Military-Spec Preamp - $1200

I have a 4U military-issue preamplifier most likely pulled from a tape machine's front end electronics. 15 years ago, I purchased it from an acquaintance who acquired a mass of gear from a former studio of the Bee-Gee's. We are guessing that it was manufactured for the Armed Forces by Presto based o...
