Re: The meaning behind your band/name
From most recent to the past: The Outer Loop - named after highways all over america which means free advertisement Bullygirl and The Battered Husbands - don't remember the exact how's of this one, but I'm pretty sure we were all stoned. (Three piece comprised of all males) Strange Attractors - I ab...

Re: anyone not finish college?
I was a music major at JMU in VA for 2.5 years. My last semester, I joined a band with a bunch of hippies, and yes folks, that was the end of my JMU career. This was followed by a couple years of altenating failing/C grades at community college. So much for the music educational career. This is my o...

Re: My last album - give a listen, or just steal it!
Hey Pedalboy I am really impressed with your work. Your stuff has lots of variety, is very clear and present sounding - catchy songs and nice background noise/effects that compliment it all very well. I'm working on a solo album myself but am currently just recording the songs roughly and impefectly...

Re: bass direct
I don't have a DI Box. I thought this might help out, but couldn't find anywhere specifically that said so. I'm just plugging directly into the soundcard 1/4" input. After trying for a while, I've resorted to sticking with the mic until I get some good advice on what to do differently (sounds like D...

bass direct
I have read in 90% of all articles about recording electric bass that it is best to plug in direct so that you can get the cleanest and purest possible tone and because most bass amps do not hold pitch as well as they should, and that the sound of the individual bass becomes lost and many many other...

Re: tweaking parametric eq
No - I don't have one of those in place yet.
I know it's important to have one of these, but I'm not really experiencing any popping here. Before I tweaked the eq, all the sounds I mentioned sounded normal and good.
Thanks! - I will be picking up a "pop guard" real soon.

tweaking parametric eq
Hi I'm using cakewalk music creator to record some solo stuff. Not knowing much of anything about parametric eq techniques, I have twiddled with cakewalk's built in parametric eq and realized that I really like my voice with lots of highs. I know I should have better monitors than just computer spea...

Re: The Fiery Furnaces
I just saw this band live opening for Wilco, and they blue my fiancee and I away! I hadn't heard any of their music before seeing them live, and set being nonstop and continuous as the album (which I quickly bought afterwards) is, man that's some cool stuff. The guitarist and basssist both play keyb...

a first critique
OK - so I've just started out with minimal equipment and inexpensive software and have recorded my first song, in which I performed all tracks and programmed the drums. It sounds 100 X better than what I could do, say a couple of months ago. However, I know there is room for improvement. I'm just no...

Re: unpadded closet
Thanx for the opinions people! I am tracking just about everything except drums. I'm doing several vocal parts/song, usually an electric and acoustic guitar, bass, and sometimes keyboard, but I'm currently running keyboard direct. Drums are through drum machine software. For the quality of my equipm...

Re: shins - Is this Print-through?
I actually plan on placing some artificial "print-throughs" on our next album. I have heard this on tapes and other recordings here and there and was never sure whether it was intentional or not. In space between songs, and even within songs, I have come to like a small amount of almost-subliminal n...

Hello - this is my first post as a registered tape-op user. I am very new to home recording and only have 3 pieces of equipment thus far: 2 mics which are MXL 990 and 991 (a combo deal) and an M-Audio MobilePre USB interface (and working on getting some better software than my current Cakewalk Music...
